just discovered the CoPilot app - although I’ve not tested it yet it seems to be exactly what I’m looking for, you can customise/create an exact route and when you switch on the navigation it will stick to the route you’ve created, not tried it yet so no idea what happens if you divert from the route
with Google maps on windows/desktop you can click/drag to modify the suggested route to whatever you want but if you try and send that route to your phone it reverts back to the shortest/quickest route…
it’s possible to save the route as a .gpx file and upoad to your satnav/app but it’s a bit long winded…following this video works but you need to sign up to Google cloud/API’s… youtube.com/watch?v=nE0aiFE … erillabill
14 day trial with CoPilot so will try it out but just wondering what peoples opinions are?
are there any other apps (or stand alone sat navs) that let you customise routes that don’t revert to the quickest/shortest route?
co pilot is a good tool, I used it when I was on the pallets and at the mill doing silly little farms and bakeries in the middle of nowhere. Kept me pretty straight. Asda use it on their microlise handsets too. I have just renewed the traffic updates on mine in readiness for my new job on grain tippers Monday Obviously dont take it as gospel, just because you put in that you are 50ft long doesnt mean it wont try and turn you back on yourself down an alley. But for bridge heights and weight limits it has been spot on for me.
I’ve seen microlise being mentioned for Tesco…I thought it was just to record activity, does it act as a sat nav too? or more like a map with location highlighted, if that makes sense?
the asda one is just on the same handset as microlise. basically do the vehicle check tick box on the handset hit depart and copilot opens up with the destination already programmed as office have dispatched to a certain store. Asda pretty much just use it a set of waypoints rather than a sat nav so you go the way they want you to go. if you go off route it is a pain as it tries to take you back to the next waypoint which may be in the middle of a closed section of road. The personal version I have will re route you. pretty good on ETA too as long as you set it correctly, can be a little out when using roads like A34, which is when working properly, 56mph on the limiter and I believe it works on 45mph average for A roads. I tend to make up 10 mins or so heading up from south coast to didcot through that.

tesco microlise has a route that your supposed to follow however if you deviate from it it doesnt re route you just shows your location on a map till you get back on the highlighted route
Not managed to work outif they are generated on the fly or if its all pre programed as it only takes you from your last store to the next. it does cleaver things like try and turn you round in the middle of a cross roads regualy and at least twice it tried to take me under a bridge that was too low
B&Q use it on Microlise as well and they are really pushing to make drivers follow it, especially as majority of their trailers are 16’2". Think there have been a few hiccups but generally they do a decent job. I’ve always used it alongside my own satnav, just in case, but so far haven’t personally been caught out.
