How busy is it likely to be on a weekday roughly mid morning and is it free with the Swiss vignette ? Thanks.
I don’t remember paying a toll for the Gottard, or even seeing toll booths, so I reckon it’s free or at least included in the vignette.
As for how busy, I ain’t got the faintest idea.

Ok cheers, I guess if there’s no tolls or booths then in theory the traffic should flow ok. I’m planning the route for this year’s jolly outing .
If youre on a jolly, dont use the tunnel. Go over the top and enjoy the view. Or, maybe you`re heading somewhere in a hurry?
Definitely included in the vignette. At peak times/holidays the queues are horrendous and traffic is controlled by lights. As mentioned above if you have the time go over the top, the scenery is fantastic.
It’s just in the planning stages at the moment, I’m off to the Northern end of Lake Como so might miss Swiss out altogether and come in from Austria.
