Birmingham. Its my first interview and assessment since passing my both HGV. Am excited but a bit worried. I know it’s normal but it’s good to know what’s ahead.
That will be Minworth depot , their yard is a bit tight to over night in , so you have drop the trailer and park the tractor unit in the other parking area .
The dropped trailer will need a lock put on the brake lines or it will taken by anybody that needs it.
Minworth has the Cadburys contract .
Many drivers park units in the pub car park next door, good food and staff are lorry driver friendly.
If you do nights away, you will be given an App phone to book on and book off.
The phone allows drivers to book off holidays and absent days off .
Harry Monk an owner driver for GDL.
The North Tawton depot is narrow lanes in Devon, mind the mirrors .
Cullumpton has a lorry wash to use and cafe outside the depot .
Good luck , let us know how you get on .

I assume you mean the Minworth depot? I work for Gregorys, good firm no complaints from me, been with them for 6 months now. For your assessment you will hook up to a trailer, go for a drive then return back to the yard, reverse into a parking space and drop the trailer, if they are happy with your driving you will more than likely have an interview straight after. You will more than likely pull a fridge trailer, do NOT split couple it, ask the assessor how you should couple it, he/she will show you the way Gregorys like to do it. Minworth yard is tight, easier to park in the bottom part of the yard than the top. When you have connected to your trailer give yourself a lot of space to pull out and don’t turn too early, the trailers in the yard are parked very close together, do not be afraid to get out and check. As you leave the yard take the middle of the exit/entrance, you can only turn left, if the assessor gets you turn right straight after leaving the yard take it very slow, again it is tight. As you return back to the yard, make sure you split the lanes before you turn into the exit, the entrance catches drivers out. In general, drive safely, don’t panic and make sure you are calm. If you are unsure where the trailer is when you reversing get out and check, as many times as you need, don’t guess and hope. Don’t be afraid to ask the assessor if you are unsure of things, tell them you’re situation, they are understanding and prefer if you are honest with them instead of trying to bluff it. Hope that helps

Mainly Scanias, a mix of manuals, semi-autos or fully autos. Most vehicles are semi-autos

I’m newly hgv driver. Am a bit worried. Not about the interview but the driving, I only drive for 4 day. The company I want to didn’t let me do that much driving. 2 hour driving a day, sit around for 2 (seriously). I paid for 4 hour. Lack of driving plus the training company didn’t have manual trucks to train on. Am a bit worried lol
At the induction , ask the driver trainer for a longer route to give you more time .
Check all the mirrors all the time .
Forward planning, they like to save fuel .
Most cabs have Telematics , scoring system to monitor driver performance .
Steady braking, no idling and over reving .

This help a lot today. I passed the interview and the assessment. They give me a job.
Thank for the advice
Well done mate, they are big firm, stay there a long time if I were you .
See, nothing to worry about, take your time, never go over driving hours, for 45 minutes tacho breaks, take 48, for 11 or 9 daily rest , make it five minutes more for tacho machine discrepancies .

Because am new, someone is going with me for two week before I go in my own. I got two week learn from him. I’m going to stay there along as possible because it’s look like a great place to work and very friendly people and they were honest with me in the interview.
Do they pay weekly or monthly? I was so nervous I forget to ask the question. I not mind it either way.
Great news, hope it goes well!
I think you are lucky to be paired up for a week first, it should help ease you in gently without incident!

I think am lucky to get class 1 job without experience lol. People on here are very helpful. They directed me to this company so am greatful. If you ask for advice on here, someone always helps.
Thank evil
They pay weekly, money is always in your bank account every Friday morning without fail. Congratulations on getting the job, they are good to work for and they will look after you as you’re a new driver. Just do things by the book and everything will be ok. First couple weeks to a month or two you will most probably sent to big RDC’s to build your confidence, then slowly they will ease you into places like Kolak in Park Royal, Freshways Acton and some of the cash and carry places we deliver to.
