Got Employment Contract, LMO and Plane Tickets to Canada

I take it you arrived safely then Colin (Contractdriver) as your facebook status said you were in a B&B in the Rockies.

Yeah, I’m here now Pat… well…, i should say, my body was here on Monday, but my soul is still on it’s way (the soul can’t fly as fast as a plane)… so it’s jetlag city for me, .

I’ve been testing all my winter gear outside at 1am-4am cos i can’t sleep… and i bought loads of winter gear with me!.. some of it’s fantastic… especially the keeping warm while ‘standing around doing bugger all’ gear works great, warm as toast.

Found out today I’m gonna be a ‘nodding donkey man’ :open_mouth: hence my FB post…, and keep the same truck and trailer  , which is great for me.

I’m in Cranbrook… I can’t stop looking at the mountains, especially when the sun shines on them and reflects on the snow, it’s a surreal scene… anyway… i’ve got ‘Tim Horton’ training to do… wil be back as soon as my soul arrives.

After eight years of ‘self employed’ Agency driving in the UK and all the crap and poor treatment that come’s with it… it’s a bit of a culture shock coming over to Canada… people are just so genuinely helpful and friendly, from the loitering punky teenagers to the woman who works in the tax office.

My employer actually uses the words ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ when they ask me to do things for them… it’s shocking :open_mouth:

I went to the ‘Bar’ last night, near my ‘luxury motel apartment’ (which my employer is paying for) where complete strangers, (men and women) ‘actually spoke’ to me, made great conversation and i didn’t get robbed or stabbed at the end of the night…

The guy in the motel apartment next to me has parked his solo truck about 2 feet from his apartment door and no one bats an eyelid…

NO: hi viz jackets, Caution ‘may contain nuts’ stickers or ‘Nigerian’ traffic warden’s hiding behind a bush with their ticket machine and camera at the ready.

The temperature is Minus -13 outside and I have been wondering around all week in summer t-shirt, jeans, jacket… and sunglasses :sunglasses:

It’s like being at a ‘Disneyland’ for Lorry drivers…

and it’s all very shocking… :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

You’ll soon be used to it

It is very different & quite refreshing I find.

Breath it all in & enjoy it & all the best to You.

I’m using this ‘old clunker’ International Lonestar (which i’m also using to learn to drive and take my test in at Cranbrook, BC) 244 wheelbase (doh!) with ‘brand new’ ■■■■■■■ 15L engine installed.

I’m using it for the next few months cos the ‘Grand Fromage’ has just ordered 5 brand new… Next Generation International Prostar’s with Autoboxes… and i’m the ‘new’ rookie whos gonna test one out… lol. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s refreshing isn’t it ? Taken for granted after a while but good to see other people reaping the benefits . Used to haul loads from the brewery in Creston and the area is still a favorite for me , just wait until Spring/Summer whan the orchards are at their finest , a great place to live . Few years ago but there was a cracking “Oirish” pub in Cranbrook as I vaguely remember .
Truck looks peachy , can’t see a DEF tank and it’s a standard so hang on to it for dear life if I were you ,let the others enjoy the new junk . Remember to keep the revs down when learning the Eaton , that’ll be why you’re missing the splits so let the turbo do the work as opposed to your foot .
Hope it works for you :sunglasses:

PS Watch out for the wildlife anywhere along HW 3 , it can be a bloody nightmare literally . I destroyed a bull Elk on my first week in Canada just 10 km East of Cranbrook and he nearly destroyed my truck in return , it gets worse in Spring and Fall . That area is responsible for most of my creature comfort moments ,the cougar :unamused: and getting out of my truck to go for a beer at Moyie (by the lake) to be greeted by a Brown Bear

Not a big fan of the Lonestar myself, I reckon they look like a giant PT Cruiser

Took one for a spin a while back, we had it on demo, loads of room in the cab and not a bad drive, it’s definitely a bloody good first truck in Canada though :sunglasses:

Good luck with everything

You should have asked to keep it, it may have travelled farther between deliveries than the contraption you have now newmercman…

I was sat in one of those the other week contractdriver it was mighty fine to sit in but I can’t help apart from that, it did have a Chrysler feel about it though Mr 379, but I liked it nonetheless, sort of jogged me back to sitting in a Hino & having a Datsun moment

I’m building a brand new 379 Pete, just doing it the Johnny Cash way, one part at a time

Blast… you beat me to it there Robinhood… lol…

Here in Cranbrook BC it seems if you dunnn’t laaake ‘Couuuntry Muuuusic’ thunnn yurr a ‘freak o nature’. Cranbrook BC remind’s me of the little town in the ‘Cars’ animated movie with Lightening McQueen (I you all may have seen this if you have kids, if you don’t… watch it anyway… it’s great!)

So as to blend in… I wear my baseball cab, checky shirt with v cut pockets, mother of pearl ‘pop’ buttons, Levis jeans and brown boots… do as the romans do etc… gonna be doing 'linedancing; classes if i stay here much longer…

DRIVING TEST TOMORROW (Friday 1st Feb) :open_mouth: :open_mouth: … and it seems strict compared to other provinces   … we will see!.. I will give it my best shot!

remember your baseball hat must have a motif that everyone likes …GMC,FORD etc …not i hate country music lol…
best o luck tomorrow

I always found the ‘RIDERPRIDE’ motif went down well in BC . :sunglasses:

mmmm…dont think so… you going to have him hung frae a hydro pole…lol

It seems to be pretty much country and western as far as Winnipeg not been further east yet do maybe more.

Technically, there are 2 types of music…

Country…

And…

Western.

Good luck with the test.

Yeah and they are both crap lol
