Why do they airbrush out/distort signs such as weight limits, parking restrictions etc? Is it so they can’t be held responsible if the signs change and you get a ticket?
I think its more the change they had to make that blurred out peoples house numbers and car number plates. The software to do it has also dragged anything with numbers into it and blurred them out too.
Thats my theory anyway

And that is the correct one.

I got caught on street view, they’ve blurred ‘scania’, they’ve blurred ‘recovery’ (on lightbar on roof) but they’ve not touched the company name
I can’t say I have ever had a problem reading road signs in google maps a couple from near by

do you have some examples ?

One of the 3.5t signs on Marlow Bridge is blotted out (near the hotel) but the other one isn’t. So that probably confirms Snowmans’ theory. They should rectify it really as it takes away a major benefit in Street View ie loading bay times etc.

however when i move back a little the sign is blurred out, I guess it is just the number plate recognition software getting carried away with itself, when some style of font becomes a certain size it considers it to be a number plate.

As an ex-coder, there is a school of thought that says "It’s easier to write code that removes round disk areas (ie. people’s faces) that unfortunately has the side effect of blanking other “round” things as well - like clock faces, round road signs, and even beacons… Notice that faces on street poster advertisments are also blanked out!
If anyone else has got a better explanation - now’s the time.
thats good enough for me thanks

Notice that in this shot, the wheel (another round object) is blurred out as well. There of course is inconsistency in any software’s recognition as to what SHOULD be recognised as “round” but is not, such as the other road signs and wheels in this pic.
