they had a system where you hand in your paperwork, passport
why did they want your passport?
I never hand mine over, even when booking into foreign hotels I let them take details etc for registration purposes but the passport is not left with them.
Far too easy for some scroat to purloin your indentity.
Also, see note 6 on page 2 of your passport.
“it should not be tampered with or passed to an unauthorised person”
I am guessing that an authorised person would only be someone in the employ of the security or immigration services of whatever country.
There is far less information stored on a passport against a driving licence. I have been handing a passport over for security since the early 80’s.
It has my Name and Place of Birth, Date of birth and expiry date.
My driving licence has my full name, address, signature, photo, DOB

Naive Malc. Your passport serial number holds more monetary value to cloners than your DL number.
those pagers were brilliant, the best ones were at continental juice in rotterdam, i sleep like a log so nothing wakes me tbh but this thing woke me up. it was like a bloody earthquake
jrl driver:
yeah,i’ve used them at ‘boots’ in nottingham when i’ve delivered there, they get you booked in,give you a pager, tell you where to park & when it’s bleeped go to the relevant bay.works pretty well.
I used to go there in the 90’s, would have two drops and collect empty pallets. Had to go back and change pager for each different job.

Unless you think every factory guard in Europe is in Al Qaeda and interested in a British drivers passport.
If they only need the number, they can etch those on their microfiche with invisible ink, and if they get caught they will take a suicide pill.
Naive, maybe, Paranoid, Never
90% of factories in Europe ask for passports to be left at the gatehouse, 99% of drivers hand them over without any argument.
If the factory explodes, it is much easier to explain to the British Consul of that country who they have just wiped out.
Anyway, my thread about pagers was answered, just not realising they were so popular in the UK.

You are the one that mentioned Al Queda not me. From my darker days when I had my fingers in all sorts of illegal pies, I can tell you for a fact that trading of such info on underground forums is pretty big business. And innocent they appear, many gatehouses are staffed by low wage ethnic minorities who are more often than not the same ethnic minority that are flogging the details en masse on the black market.
90% of factories in continental Europe can ask for passports to be left with them, but I’ll tell you this, I’ll be in your 1% that would not be conforming with the request. The only people that get to look at and/or keep my passport for an agreed period of time are official bodies and some ‘random’ controlling the barrier at a factory is not one of them. They can look at my DL if they insist on confirming who I am, but it doesn’t get left with them and they don’t get to record the details on it either unless they can give me a good enough reason to (eg. agencies/companies I drive for to cover their insurance policy).
Again. I am not paranoid, my National Insurance number is mine for life, my driver number will never change, so what use is a random 9 digit number that changes every ten years?
For your underground forums, maybe you can make us a few quid, my passport number is 500140329
The only reason I hand over driving licence instead of passport is it’s a hell of a lot easier to replace. Plus of course if you lose your passport abroad you can never return to this country, ever, so I’m told…you must make a new life at the factory.

lol, I will have 3 weeks in Italy please, there are some lovely factories on the Rimini coast

As indeed are some of the staff who work in filling stations and have scams which involve sums of money being removed from your bank account in places you’ve never been to.
Trust no one, that’s my policy.
Ditto, Boots SSC at Nottingham. It can be a little confusing the 1st time you use it, as beeps as soon as they activate it, & I’ve known some drivers misinterpret the onitial message and head for the bays instead of the truck park.
Iceland Warrington ask you for a mobile number while your on the bay and tell you to go wait in the canteen. Which I did last Friday, just in time for breakfast (£2.75 for a full English) then they ring you to return to goods in
There’s a lot of innovate ways that make life really easy for both the driver and the staff of the company being delivered to, most of which are detailed in this thread. Clearly Tesco just ■■■■■■■ hate truck drivers and seem to do their utmost to cause them as much grief and aggro as they can. For that reason they haven’t received a penny in business from me for nearly 4 years now and I have no intention of changing that in the future either.
We take the phone number of the driver and ring him when he has a bay to go on. Except for when they forget or write it down wrong. Then they radio the shunter or gatehouse and get them to go and get the driver.

Well your boycott seems to be working, sales are down bbc.co.uk/news/business-15178825

Please wait a moment while I shed a tear…
But seriously, you wouldn’t buy from a shop again if you got treated like [zb], so personally I won’t stand for it when I’m visiting their premises on business either. It’s probably unlikely, but who knows, maybe - just maybe - that drop in profits is made up of people like me who are boycotting them. A lot of small amounts = a large one if there’s enough people.
ETA: sales may be down, but profits are still up…
I do get what your saying and understand it but to be honest if I stopped shopping at all the places that don’t treat drivers well there’d hardly be a shop in the UK I could go to. I’d have to cross the channel just to buy food, but not in Carrefour because in my experience they treat drivers like crap too! For me at least a boycott is just not feasible.
