R.I.P. Pat Roach who sadly passed away last night.
From Auf Wiedersehen Pet to James Bond films, he was a star.
I am proud to say that he once came down my street, about 10 years ago, in his Dodge Pick-up.
No, it wasn’t a flashy Dodge, but a recovery truck he was using to collect a car at the end of my road.
Not known to many, he had a firm called ‘Pat Roach Car and Commercial’, which was a vehicle dismantlers / salvage yard in Winson Green, opposite the Prison in Birmingham.
The last time I saw him was 2 years ago in Erdington,Birmingham.
I was coming up from Spaghetti and let him out of a side road in his old white Rolls Convertible.
What a brilliant actor and to think he started out as a profesional wrestler against others such as Les Kellet and Mick McManus
He did indeed pat, i remember my old man taking me to see him wrestle at the winter gardens and he had teamed up in tag with Big daddy and they wrestled Giant haystacks and cry baby bobby barnes . those were the days lol
I knew Pat quite well… not as in friends, but he knew me by name and face, along with my dad too.
I do a lot of voluntry work with a charity called Special Olympics - Sport for people with Learning Disabillities, and Pat was a very very active follower of this charity. He would always come to any games that were going on, and would always be doing everything he could to help, not just ‘appear’ as a TV face, but he would get involved, from organising, to escorting the athletes, to presenting medals. and he was always so down to earth, friendly, helpful, and full of fun and life…
Special Olympics has lost a great ambassedor, as has Great Britain…
My sincere condolences to his Family at this very sad time…
