had my visit to my consultant today, and a jolly time was had by all (NOT)
she’s more than happy happy with my progress because i’m doing things that according to my CT scan i shouldn’t be doing, then she did a marrow biopsy which she didn’t warn me about, i’m still feeling that now 2 hours later.
do i do the good bit or the bad bit 1st ?
sod it, good news is i go back in on 7th of january 2008 to restart my chemo so that should be completed by the end of march/start of april.
bad news is my left lung is all but completely shot and my right lung is also badly damaged, so i’ll always be short of breath after doing anything other than sitting down doing nothing, so any kind of manual work is out of the question
so as of now i’m officially retired from lorry driving and building site work, which excludes me from using the only two skills i’ve got .
she also told me i’d never run a mile again, but thats not too bad cos i retired from doing half marathons when i reached 40 .
i’ve now done a mile walking so i may just have a go at proving her wrong about running it, i’ve even been told not to use my bike, but that was my next aim, so i’m going to ignore that bit and prove her wrong on both counts before the summer is out and run a mile and do at least one of our usual family rides around rutland water (26 miles with 2 pub stops en route)

Yes biggus, but along with those two skills comes your wealth of experience.
IMHO, it might be a shame if that were to be “lost” for all time.
I don’t know your exact circumstances, but could you consider some kind of instructing or consultancy
IMHO, it might be a way for you to stay on somewhat familiar ground. (Less learning )
I did exactly that when I found out that I can’t do LGV driving full-time. (Limited by pain.)
In my own case, I thought it would be a good way of putting something back and benefitting newbies or people who wish to upskill.
Have a think about it and let me know??

Hi Steve
Dieseldave is 100% correct, couldn’t have said it any better.
Other people have done it and you have already shown that you can and more importantly WILL.
again as Deiseldave says FFS take it easy and don’t rush it and you will get there.
Giving up is not an option
For someone who has also been at deaths door, albeit in different circumstances, keep on fighting fella, and ALWAYS keep a positive attitude to everything you do.I’m convinced it kept me alive.
Seperately,my Mum contracted cancer about 5 years ago,and was all for giving up,as she and my sister are doom and gloom merchants, until I went back up to Tyneside to visit her,and gave her the biggest bollocking about her attitude towards it.
She found it hard to accept that anything would save her,but as I told her, where there’s hope, there’s life, and she’s glad she did look at it differently,as she’s still alive today, and clear of it.
So Steve, the same applies to you, don’t let it get you down, and fight it as much as you can,and hopefully, everything will work out fine in the end.
Bollocking applied.(Under the rules of the site of course. )
Ken.
well here we go again with the next stage of “can we kill biggus”
i’m back in hospital at 9am and for the 1st time in all this i’m actually frightened.
i’ve been assured that i’m in no danger this time because there is no steroids involved, but after coming so close to death after the last ■■■■ up i’m getting more and more apprehensive about going back.
the only thing making me go back is knowing i’ll die if i dont.
i’ll try and post using my pda, but if i lose patience with it i’ll call animal or lucy and they can keep you informed.
fingers crossed and i’ll be back online proper on the 18th
see you all soon.
Hope they dont try to kill you this time as i quite like you with a pulse
Good luck with it all and will look forward to seeing you on line soon
Thinking of you babe.xxxxxxx

Agreed.
Best of luck mate.
they haven’t killed me yet
i haven’t enjoyed this session of chemo as much as the last, the reason being that with all the needles i’ve had in me since september and then having a four week break my veins have got sensitive.
every needle i’ve had this session i’ve had pain, but everything has gone fine my biopsy i had before xmas showed no leukemia whatsoever, if it stays like that in three weeks time i might not have to have the last two sessions of chemo.
so i’m out for three weeks r & r again now, and if everything goes well i can start counting the five years off to complete remission.
Pleased you still have your pulse and are alive and kicking
That is good news hope it all goes well and good luck ■■■■ speak soon
Agreed, that is good news Steve.
Good luck ■■■■, speak soon!

Are you sure it isn’t meant to read “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” ?
Sounds like good news biggus. The last results are very encouraging indeed, but please don’t overdo things.
We both gonna be celebrating in 5years time steve. Good luck with the treatment
not too good this week lads and lassies
monday was ok, no problems
wednesday had to have 2 pints of blood but felt rough (normally buzzing after 2 pints)
thursday I slept in till the afternoon and by 18.30 I realiised I was feeling not too well and my temperature was rising quickly
by 20.00 i’d reached 38c and should’ve gone straight to hospital, but I could’nt get the last time I rushed in out of my mind, I went in at night and once given a bed I went to sleep and didn’t wake up for a month, so i’d already made my mind up I wasn’t going in again at night.
so 1st mistake was not going in, 2nd mistake was to take 2 paracetamol to artificially bring my temperature down so amanda wouldn’t nag.
went into hospital friday and within minutes of arrival i’m hooked up to an iv stand and having antibiotics dripped into me
after a few hours I was moved up to my ward and pumped with fluids and antibiotics through till 01.30 then they let me sleep
I went to sleep at roughly the same time as I did the last time, so much for stopping deja vous
today I feel fine, my temperatures are normal, blood pressure normal and i’ve had a bag of platelets to bring all my counts up
hopefully i’ll be out on monday but next time I have a bright idea somone kick my ■■■■
mind you amanda won’t be fooled that easy ever again
lesson learned, and cheers rikki
Tut, tut, tut! thinking of you babe.xxxxxxxxx

Good luck with the rest of it.
