Well,I wouldn’t have put this shot on the thread in the first place and,of course,we don’t know that this isn’t how the load was brought from it’s point of origin to the delivery address in any case, looks to me like a lot of effort has been put into “re-covering” the load just to move it around the corner. :unamused: Cynical I know but it is only a Skate board isn’t it  Cheers Bewick.

Bewick, seeing the pics of the pig iron brought back memories from years working at Fords truck fleet at Dagenham before they shut pig iron production down having to load 8/10 trailers per day for night run to Leamington Spa foundry.

Hiya “flyer747”,we did a fair few loads to Dagenham from Workington Steel prior to BSC stopping production,we were able to deliver the Pig on flats which suited us fine, apparently Fords bought pig iron from Workington periodically to improve the quality of their castings, well thats what I was told anyway ! Cheers Bewick.

Bewick, when I was doing the pig iron we used rope on every hook and of course sometime the newbies on the fleet got that job for roping and sheeting practice :imp: but on another note when we had to sheet gearboxes for the truck plant at Langley , 1st two pallets single then the rest two high, guess what the old hands would sit in their cabs and watch how you did, not even an offer to help but not all like that, so being a newbie at that time I learnt to be good at it.

Hiya “Flyer747”,We once loaded 40ton of Pig on two of our Atkis for Dagenham and we came down through the Lakes back to Milnthorpe one afternoon ready for a flyer to Fords next morning.Well by the time we got back to our depot the phone line was litrally “melting” from Beatrice the “dragon” who ran J.W.Grahams office at Embleton,Bass Lake(the haulier we subbed off).On the basis that there was lumps of pig iron on every corner down through the Lakes, and as we were the only two flats loaded at Workington that day it could only be off our motors  .So I phoned straight back when we pulled into the depot and said “no way Beatrice my dear” !! "Don’t “my dear” me it can only be you lot !!! furthermore there are two Police mini vans with their arses dragging on the ground loaded with the evidence.!! Well I’m sorry Beatrice if you insist I’ll go and weigh off at the quarry and get the bridgeman to ring you with our gross weights but I assure you “my dear” we are not guilty !! Five minutes later,“J.W.Graham here,Beatrice speaking, sorry it was one of Carefoots who’s tail gate wasn’t fastend and he has lost a couple of ton over 20 mile” Burrrrrrrrrr!!!.So the accusation was based on "nothing can fall off a tipper so it must be “100%” those two flats.Cheers Bewick.   :sunglasses:

Bewick

Did pig iron on both flat trailers and bulkers from Dagenham to Bridgend, from Cardiff to Gateshead and from Dagenham to Leamington. Many years later we carried powdered clay (Bentonite) from Wiltshire to Leamington in tankers.

Was the clay used to make the moulds at the foundry ROF ? Cheers Bewick.

Although I believe that to be the case, I’m only making an assumption. However, the one thing I am sure about is that they never had room in the silo for my load until after lunch!
