I worked this morning on agency, we had agreed that I’d get 8 hours money for the 4 hours work.
I got a call thursday asking do you want a coop shift tomorrow,no really i said but as im a greedy sob ok.whats the bank holiday rate i ask.theres isnt she said, ram it i says.no more shifts from them
If you didn’t have BHs in your contract, but got told “Work this one or else” then you go sick - the firm could basically murder you and remove your organs if they wished, because the government of this country is “Business Friendly” after all. Be very carful how you treat pushy employers before there’s been a radical change of government, even if that’s as soon as next year.
On another note - What would you think of as “appropriate pay” if you decided to ONLY work the good Friday this week and ONLY the bank holiday Monday next week?
Flat rate?
Premium rate?
Double Bubble?
Day off in lieu?
A VERY large “job and knock” booking? (eg 3-4 hours work for 8-10 hours pay)?
Come to that - of those firms that actually pay the hallowed double bubble rates - WHO’S actually “got some” this weekend?
Full timers surely won’t be entitled to such plum overtime unless they’ve put in so many hours during the week already… At which point, they might not have enough hours left to DO a premium shift!
Agencies? - Same issue surely. You don’t get double bubble unless it’s as a bank holiday overtime rate… Eg. You’ve already worked 40 hours earlier in the week to be entitled to an overtime rate?
At RM we used to have the choice of EITHER “double time and a half” OR “time and a half and a day off in lieu”… To qualify, you had to have done a full time set of hours that same week, AND you had to have at least 2 hours of it on the BH in question, bearing in mind I was on perm nights. Thus, if I had a Thursday into good Friday morning 6pm-3am then I’d take the day off in lieu.
If I got a nice long duty all on the good Friday, say 01:00-15:00 then I’d have it as double time and a half.
Ps. the only “Organ Removals” I’m ever likely to be involved in would be to come around in a truck, and pick this lot up…
our gaffer pays same (flat) rate bank hol and weekends … I will not work them , others do but that’s their choice .

There will be plenty that don’t pay for bank holidays. I know Ramage in Newcastle don’t pay you for working bank holidays, any bank holiday, and as they do a 4 on 4 off system someone will be doing this Friday -Monday for no extra. I don’t work there anymore.Don’t know whether I will get shot down for this or not, but I think on a 4 on 4 off system it’s fair game to be honest. Apart from controlling drivers hours, isn’t that the point of 4 on 4 off rotas? Firms that run 24/7/365 operations get all their weekends & BH’s covered as part of the basic drivers salary whilst the driver gets bags of time off only working 6 months of the year. Works both ways.
We work the 4 and 4 pattern , my partner is working today for double time and I’m at home getting 10 hrs standard rate for a day of r and r
Worked today , normal rate . As my rest days are sat & sun. miss out on a days holiday .
We always worked the Good Friday to save shutting the quarry plant etc down for longer than need be as it wasn’t economical to do that, but didn’t get extra for it as we had the Tuesday off instead. Rather do that than have Friday off and then have to go in again on the Saturday!

You’ve got to be off your ■■■■ to choose to work Good Friday or any day till Tuesday unless you are on at least double bubble.
I’m off me ■■■■ then!! I work 'em all because a; my missus normally has to work them any way (NHS) so sort of beggars up any plans for a dirty weekend away but my good wage equates to a rather tidy hourly rate that pays a full 9.5hrs irrespective of hrs worked (got called in to move 3 trailers once) and b; all the o/t has paid for 2 weeks in Zante (with the spends) in June and 1 week in Rhodes at the start of September. A few years of saving also paid for my car . While it’s going, I’m all over it…never know when it’s gonna end!

If you’re on PAYE you should not miss out on a days holiday even though you worked, you’re entitled to 28 days a year leave regardless of what shifts you normally do.

Isn’t that illegal spacing on your number plate (not to mention a bit pretencious).
Doesn’t both me though as its a nice motor and you’ve earned it.
One question though did you get away with this for an MOT or have you only just purchased it.

Depot closed on sun. If your scheduled to work on sun you get stood down .If your rest days are mon & tues your laughing, 3 off. Been told by manager this was agreed by workforce who received a payment years ago to forfeit future bank holiday payments. As we work 4 on 2 off rota its just your luck (?) when the days fall. Personally i think it stinks.

Do DHL drivers get paid bank holiday rates?
Got paid £2-3 extra per hour today and Monday, My last job didn’t pay any extra even on Xmas Eve and Boxing Day, Now in a job I enjoy so don’t really mind working it, plus if I was off I’d be spending my time walking the dog, trying to avoid the morons that flock to parks and countrysides on these holidays… I’d rather be stuck with them in traffic getting paid
Dipper Dave… Had the car 2 years now and was 1 when I got it…1st MOT due next month… (plate is from wife’s old Fiesta, mine is an 11 plate), never had any problems with the police about the spacing but I didn’t change any of the font, just moved the digits…the ANPR camera at Gatwick Airport Carpark can read it, as it lets me in and out!
That represents ‘every bank holiday for the past decade’ there surely?

And not forgetting the Fridays I cover for sometimes, and that’s just to pay for the diesel to run it! If I said it was economical, I’d be lying!
Anybody that works a bank holiday for single time is a bloody fool, do these people realise they are basically working a full shift for free.

Isn’t “lying” considered “economical with the truth” though? - in which case, you could say anything you liked as a pose.
I’m 4on 4off, 8hrs if I work or not & 1 1/2 for all hrs worked, but out here Good Friday’s a B/H but Easter Monday is not.

That’s crap mate.
Most agencies guarantee 8hrs pay anyway, so you’d get that on a normal day.
For Good Friday, you want an enhanced rate and still guaranteed 8hrs.
If I go in on a Saturday, I’m on time+half and guaranteed 8hrs, Sunday is double bubble and guaranteed 8hrs - even if I only do 4hrs work

Is that rego plate supposed to spell something?
