Ok I spent a few years away from trucking and since I came back I’ve been on days.
In 2 weeks I am starting on car transporters and going back to 4 nights out a week so I need new gear… Obviously entertainment has improved with mobile wi-fi and iPads etc… But I’m looking for a decent fridge/coolbox and not sure what to go for so any advice would be appreciated.
Does anyone recommend 24v over 12v? Or have a make that they swear by?
Also interested in knowing if many of you have used a portable toilet for nights in lay-bys/ industrial estates? I’ve never liked services, I cook my own grub and new company have advised not to park in services overnight anyway so bearing that in mind I was considering a compact porta loo to keep in the truck but not really sure so let me know if you’ve had experience…

I got a coolbox 12v from Clas Ohlson, works a treat. As for the port-a-crapper, don’t bother. They stink, your cab will smell as such. Use the facilities when tipping or loading.
I’d get a waeco tropicool…Quite expensive…But are a reliable fridge…And can be left on all week with no problems…24volt too…If you want a cool box though…Aldi are doing some at the moment…Can’t remember the price of them though…
I hear the Lidl and Aldi 12v cooler boxes are excellent, mines a Halfords special but I have had to change the plug once in 2 years
For in cab loos I find ironically a Lidl or Aldi carrier bag great for dropping a log in, line with kitchen roll first then open the bombdoors and jobs a good un, perfect for number 2’s.
Oh we have had reports of truckers having issues with not being able to ■■■ without doing a wee at the same in which case an empty fabric softener bottle can solve this problem, an extra pair of hands maybe required though. Luckily a fellow trucker will happily help out now as its common practice.
Number 1’s go up the wheel as normal and incab Wi-Fi and tablet for number 3’s.
As always wetwipes are still every truckers best friend, Lidl ones are excellent. I’m test driving a pack of huggies at the moment but they don’t seem to have the strength of the Lidl ones although they are a bit more juicy.
In fact just pop down to Lidl and your sorted. Other supermarkets are available for all your excreterary and ■■■■■■■■■■■ needs.

There u have it. Explained perfectly. Absolute class
Must say tho, I had a Lidl £40 coolbox and it was dung. Packed in after 6 months. Didn’t like it running for too long as the plug got very hot. Money back so can’t grumble.
Ended up buying a new one from the fleece which is spot on. Pricey tho. Evercool 33L 12/24v. Runs quiet and keep it on constant with no problems.
Thanks. Seems like the 12v ones are up to the task then, handy as they’re cheaper for some reason, I’m not looking to spend £400 on a proper fridge I think a powered coolbox should be fine and with the limited space in the short cab can’t be anything too big anyway.
As for the crapper… I think il leave that one off the shopping list.
I have the one in the link below. I know it’s all in German but I got mine in Costco. (Carbon fibre effect!) 12v/24v/230v. Very effective cooler and fairly quiet. If you run it on mains it’s pretty much silent as it runs slower, but you can put it on ‘boost’ mode. Has a switchable voltage measuring cut out switch. Will shut off if it’s drained the truck batteries too much, though I find this over sensitive. Also has an lcd temperature display. Very useful. I don’t know how much it is on this website but mine cost £55-£60
I’ve got a waeco cool freeze compressor fridge runs off 12/24/240 v and has a built in battery guard so I leave it plugged in all time but it cost me £200 second hand new they’re £400
I have a WAECO…have tried all the cheap ones, and found them crap…and never lasted too long…portable toilet is a good idea, but will take up a lot of space, plus the emptying of it can be a problem, and uk cabs are just not built for them, especially car transporters, which are smaller than most.
