If you’re around the M5 j14 travel up the road toward Wotton Under Edge. You’ll be able to park at the tea van and see several Glos ERFs hauling out of Wickwar Quarry. AE Febrys’, FG Bond (I think they’ve sold some of them but I have seen at least one wearing their paint scheme with someone elses’ name on the cab). Not sure if they’re Glos registered for sure though!

if you look on hereford hauliers there is HDG 286V ERF B series belonged to Ross Roadways

FG Bonds haven’t had any Glos regs since the mid '70s!! :open_mouth: Since then until the early nineties were bristol regs and since then nearly all have had personalised FGB no’s… Moreton Cullimores is possibly the best bet now for Glos regs I would think but there aren’t too many ERF’s left…

It’s quite common to see Cullimores ERFs near Fairford/Cirencester working out of Round House Farm Pit. To my knowledge all their ERFs are alloy bodied, whereas the Scanias and Fodens are a mixed bag. Dont know if theyve got any ERF mixers though.
There are a couple of ERFs around the M5 in old ARC colours aswell.

I’ve been away from Cirencester for to long, where the hell is Round House Farm Pit  ■■?

Round House Farm Pit is between Kempsford and the A419. If you come up from Swindon A419 take exit signed Kempford, Fairford and Marston Meysey. The first quarry off the roundabout is Eysey Manor Pit, run by Tarmac. Round House is about halfway between there and Kempsford village. Bardon Aggs have a pit at Kempsford down Washpool Lane next to the old Multi Agg pit that Earthline are filling. I think Round House replaced a pit near Ashton Keynes as that’s where Bardons relocated from. Cullimores haven’t been at Round House for that long.

I work around the area of the old ARC now Hanson Quarries & I haven’t seen an ERF running in ARC colours for years. The only ERF to be owned & ran by ARC was an 8 wheeler A series K registered 1972. It was a lovely loking truck but they only ever had the one. The other ERFs were ran by Owner drivers & there’s only one left nowadays. Even that hasn’t been in fleet colours for many years & currently sports a Blue cab.
The only Febry left running today is JB Febry & Son, all the others have long since finished. However, there’s a CD around with all the old R&W Febry fleet on it going back many years. I was allowed to borrow it once & it was lovely to see all the old lorries again. Some of the drivers sprang to mind as the photos popped up.

Is it Febrys from Wotton Under Edge? I’ve seen an ERF E8 (P-reg I think) 6 wheeler in cream/beige colours at Wickwar recently. I’ve seen an ERF EC 8 legger in the ARC livery (no signwriting) about 3 weeks ago along the Fosseway between Fosse Cross and Cirencester. Must be older than S reg as I remember ARC trucks in Oxford area in '98 gradually being re-painted into Hanson blue.

Cheers for that Muckaway don’t know any of them, born in that area and ran out of Bradleys, Ameys ( later ARC & Hansons ) Cullimores, Roger Constants, a firm from Cheltenham can’t remember there name brown trucks had pit’s at Somerford Keynes, Kingston Minerals. Going back a few ( or a lot ) of years now mate, firms taken over and all that names change.

Yeah remember Hobbs in the Forest of Dean Dave, must still be some quarries down there now just under different names. We use to run a lot of coal from up north back down to coal yards in the Forest, then backload from quarries there or run mt on down to the Gore for stone, to get us where we had the load from.
cheers John.

BB, you are quite correct. I have a feeling I may know you from a few years ago when I was on the road. Did you have a Volvo tipper? Bruce Febry has two trucks now, a steyr cabbed Man with a pusher axle in Hanson blue and a 6 wheel Man in the white livery. Danny, Bruce’s brother retired about a month ago and sold his truck to another local firm. All from the Chipping Sodbury area. R&W had a great fleet, it was a sad day when the last ones were auctioned off at Avonmouth. Renwicks Freight, I think it was, who took them over and then it all seemed to go wrong. I stand to be corrected by someone who knows more than me about it…

Somewhere on here I think there are some pics from Gaydon this year. One of those is an ERF with a DFH registration. Derek Hicks from Cirencester had a small fleet on bulk tipper work and I think this was one of his, driven by a lovely chap who I only knew as Reg. Derek also had a couple of Volvo’s and another one or two ERF’s when he finished sometime in the early nineties if I remember correctly

hi flourpower, on Bubbs page “Scrapbook Memories” there are a few Glos reg ERFs. on page 113 is Aseries ADF 147K that i had the pleasure of driving quite a bit.page 114 finds Smiths in Bristol who i also worked for,B series MAD665M. Cullimores B GDG541V on page 118, Dunkerleys A,GDF776L and Modern Engineerings NDF382m on page 119.all excellent piccs, courtesey of Marcus (Bubbleman)…cheers…chris

Firm with brown trucks from Cheltenham, was it Elliotts? They’ve got (or had, I think one of their pits has recently closed) a pit at Bishops Cleeve. I just remember Kingstons, ran a gravel pit at Hardwick near Witney.

Can’t tell you anything about this but it’s the only Cullimore wagon that I have photographed.
