Has anybody got old photos of Gouldings from Newent very tidy fleet . regards kkYou’re talking about the firm that both I & my father drove for in the distant past. So long ago that there was only one ERF in the fleet when I left for pastures new. The rest of the fleet were Bedfords and Albions at that time.
As posted, David Goulding, grandson of the company’s founder, is still trundling around in a lone six-wheeler ERF. Seems a very long time since he and I attended the local school, riding around with the drivers on Saturdays and school holidays.
There are some photos and links to a couple of videos on one of the threads. Post again, or PM me if you want further info on the firm.Hi Retired Old ■■■■ , didnt Gouldings have a 6 wheeler Bedford TK on stock work ? regards kk
I too am sure they had a TK but a 4 wheeler with a cattle body on it, I’m sure I can remember it loading fat sows and boars out of Gloucester market.

Hello again, lads. Most of Goulding’s livestock haulers were Bedford TK 4-wheelers at one time. My father had the first TK in, I reckon, 1962 (ish) fitted from new with a removeable container although I can’t remember it ever being taken off the vehicle. Most of the livestock bodies were finished in mid Brunswick green but a couple were nicely varnished from Thorne’s at Dorrington ( now Bulkright’s factory). If memory serves me right, the TK’s containers were all made with the traditional folding upper decks, whereas the heavier Albions and later, ERFs had the heavier & stronger sliding type.
Hi, Paul, if I remember correctly, that ERF 8-wheeler of Young Georges was driven by Jim Eckley (ex BRS, ex Old George). It was powered by a 150 Gardner which had a problem that George was unwilling to pay anyone to sort out. I took the thing on a trip (just the one!) when Jim had a couple of days off. Young G wouldn’t believe just how gutless it was until I showed him my tacho chart. From a standing start onto the M1 it had taken me over fifteen minutes to reach the ERFs top speed of 52mph. I never drove it again, especially after G had conned me into having a night out in the day cab with no overnight gear in order to reload the next morning.
Happy days!

Hi, I don’t know where it is now or who owns it, or whether it’s been made into washing machines, but the breakers where this photo was taken has all been cleared now to make way for asda, if everything goes their way. They always seemed to have something interesting to look at…Still, that’s progress…
Not another bl**dy supermarket
