bazztrucker:
hi kk, I drove most of those lorries of r and j at one time in the early 70s, starting with the A series with the pigeon loft on, 180 gardner, no power steering. Weston Transport lorries when I joined R&J were red and green. I think I’ve put some of this on the Forest of Dean thred. There are also some pics of R&J in green on there.

Hi bazztrucker thanks for your reply , Do you remember the Scammell Routeman 8 legger they had ? would see it at Uskmouth power station . When i knew of Weston Transpoet they had a couple of Guy Invincible 8 tippers . Does any one remember where his depot was ? regards Keith .

hi kk don’t remember any scammels or guys I reckon you must be a bit older than me, all I know of Weston transport was that they came from Weston under penyard. wont be on for a while moving house tomorrow, out of the forest!!!

So I can forget about a visit to Denehurst then. :frowning:

Are we still talking about John James having Scammells? cause the only one that I know he had was a Handyman. As for Weston Transport, I’ve not seen one. Here’s the only photo of that Scammell I have and it’s not a full picture of the truck. I would like to see a better one if any-ones got one…

Oh no! Not another one deserting the sinking ship? There’ll soon be nothing left in the Forest but a few sheep, a pig on a wall and a dead bear.

Crash helmet at the ready…

Rof,Send me your post code, the boys will be round obut.

Gone into hiding. Don’t want all them sheep tearing up the M6 after me!

Was referring to Ralph on page 7!

We spent Easter in Gloucestershire, Cambridge campsite opposite Ellis Transport. We then carried on to the Forest, past Eric Vick,Downtons yard and then past my old bosses yard at Longhope.Shocked to see the fleet not parked out the front in a row.Got to Coleford too late to see the Transport festival.Spent about an hour in Coalway playing with an old Tiger Cub motorbike.

It’s all wreckers out the front these days. Don’t know what the world’s coming to! And what about the mess of little brick boxes at Merrin End?
By the way, do you remember Dougie Brown at Drybrook? Nice little fleet of red AECs if I recall correctly.

Yes ROF I do remember Brown’s AEC fleet.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

A little story relating to Watts breakdown trucks. When I worked at Richard Reads we got a call to collect an ERF tanker from the top of Birdlip hill.It had burnt out the cab and was loaded.Myself and Ron Hayward got the job of recovering it to Longhope. We took a steering wheel and a seat for the driver. I drove one of Richards loaded ERF tippers, big 6LW engine  And poor Ron coupled up to the rear of the tanker with that bloody Douglas. We coupled the three vehicles together to come down Birdlip. Think about that poor driver on the tanker with no brakes,no power steering etc!!!. We uncoupled the Douglas until we got to Little London and then joined them up again. We got it back safely :astonished: The next day another tanker arrived at Richards and transferred the load. Then to rub salt into our wounds Watts breakdown arrived and suspended it and took it to Lydney for repair. I met the driver again at Gloster hgv station with his repaired lorry.Happy days.elf and safety would have locked us all up
