Anyone remember the O/D who subbed for Edgy’s with a black B-series ERF?
Went by the name of Transrex, always looked a clean well looked after motor.
That’s the fella! His Christian name was Rex, haven’t got a clue about his surname. Very nice chap, our fitters used to look after his motor, I think it had the first L10 ■■■■■■■ that I’d seen. Is he still working or has he retired on his millions?
Saw a picture of black/red ERF on an 03 plate that stated it was ex him, I will have to talk to mate and find out he was getting on a bit the last time i saw him.Ernest Awre is another that comes to mind another Scania user.
Ernest Awre- now don’t try telling me that HE’s still driving?!?!

That’s a shame- one of the old timers, but he wasn’t that elderly.
That seems like a good tribute, lurpak.

Hi everybody, Here I have a small selection of photo’s from my collection of Gloucestershire firms, many of which are no longer in existence. More to follow. Any info on any of these firms would be great. I’m hoping that people out there in trucknet land have some others that can be shared. These obviously aren’t the only ones out there, so dig out those ones you have in the bottom of a drawer somewhere and get them on here. Cheers…

Can remember Barters Transport of Gloucester, a lot of 8 legger ERF’s and later artics with ERF tractor units. Tivoli Transport as well. And a few others Rod Close, Kevin Garwood, Dave Folkes, A E Sadler, Mick(?)Cox,Alf Turner, John Squires and a lad with the surname of Rooker from the FOD.
Just edited to add Neatford Tpt, Paul Kibble and used to see John Cooper stuff every so often.

Sadly Rex Horsman passed away a couple of years ago.
One of the best.

Sad to hear that.
That’s so sad. I hadn’t seen Rex for about 25 years but always remembered him as a really nice chap. He would be pleased to know that the photo of his motor has been posted for posterity.
Personally, it’s good to know that others remember him. R.I.P. Rex.
I’ve just looked it up, Rex died in late July 2010 (where do the years go?) the day after his 65th birthday. His funeral was attended by many of the great and the good of the local and national road haulage community as well as many friends and he now lies in the old churchyard of St Bartholomew’s. (The one up on the hill) where he can keep an eye on you all as you trundle up and down the M5, give him a toot as you pass Junction 11
Super photo there, kiddo.

Barter’s- would that be Sid Barter who had the ERF tippers at Over? Later sold out to John ? of Newport, who were taken over by Evans and Reid (not sure about the second name) hauliers & bodybuilders. They moved to larger and more modern premises by buying Bill Field’s yard in Newent. Sid managed the firm for some years after the takeover. My second job after leaving school was at Sid’s brother’s garage in Southgate Street, Gloucester.
It would be nice if someone could fill in the blanks for me.
The other name I recognise is Bill Rooker. Bit of a character (polite again ) as I recall, with a contract to haul garden sundries from a little factory in Longhope. He once offered me a job, saying that he had a new Scania for me to drive, the chassis & cab being in a bodyshop in Cinderford having a new curtainside body made to fit it. I took it into my head to call at the said bodyworks to check on progress. I found an old Commer, being fitted with a second-hand body. Did I take the job? What do you think?

He was a nice chap, I remember seeing his cattle lorry when he used to buy a lot of barren cows & old Bulls in Gloucester market.
