Not much showing for either the Longhope or Cinderford sites but as there is no date, it could be midweek with all the vehicles working.
Yers a couple of Jimmy Nash’s old trucks from a few years ago…
I had a look on Google street view at Richard Reads.Nice old ERF tanker on the front. No tankers there when I worked there.
And I’m guessing no tautliners either, matey!
Just back from a week at my daughter’s in Glorious Gloucestershire. Regret no pics as I was far too busy helping the family get rid of a serious quantity of whiskey, cider and beer
Sounds good RoF…Working my way through the stock that I have…
If you need any help…
I wouldn’t want to impose…Thanks anyway…
I see that Wilderness quarry’s been shut for a while, just wondered if anyone knew why or when it may reopen?

Haven’t got a clue who owns the place these days. In Young George’s hey day, he rented it from his mother. Presumably it passed down through the family after Mrs Read died, probably ending up in either Pam’s possession or George’s offspring (haven’t seen Nigel for over thirty years).
I too would be interested in any info on the quarry.

Ow do again ROF with ref to yor post on here and Bubbs site, I’ve supped many a pint in The Lamb in the 70’s when mine host was “Tonto Jones”. If none of us had showed up by about one o’clock on a Saturday he would ring down to The Wilderness and ask “Young George” -“are you sending any of the boys up or shall I mark them absent?” On arrival in the esteemed company of Curly Ryder, Jim Allen,Trevor Probert,Lewis Brooks,Graham Didcote,Ian Morgan,Phil Read and Mickey Russell and others too numerous to mention Tonto would ask what do you boys want in your rolls, Esme has got Ram, Jam, Ham, Spam or Lamb - what do you want, in his inimitable Welsh dulcet tones .Isn’t it funny how silly things like these stick in your mind and bring back such wonderful memories of good times we enjoyed, the like if which we will not see again - Cheero for now.
LD, Of all the names you mention, the last one I saw was Mickey Russell who I (almost) bumped into near Burtonwood brewery when he was driving for Harold. Presumably he, like most of us, has retired by now?
I think you’ll find that I was one of the “too numerous to mention”- we surely must know each other?
And I remember that Tonto used to call you, “lovely boy” just before he barred you, usually for making some unseemly remark about his daughter! Happy days.
Apparently there’s a vintage show at Speech House this Sunday. If anyone can take a camera, I’m sure there are those on here who would be extremely grateful for any pics.
And it’s as good an excuse as any for bringing God’s Own County back onto the front page!
I’ll get me coat
I’m sure at least one of us can manage that R0F…

No idea about this one, matey. It’s a new one on me but if I’d known I would have braved the M5/M6 to have a look and meet some of the local guys on here. Definitely be down next year if it’s an annual event.
Roger Marfell- there’s a blast from the past!
