Brings back memories. I can confirm the photo was taken at the rear of the workshop. I had 1101AD for a while until I managed to get rid of it!

Hi ROF was there any Bristols allocated to Mitcheldean ? regards Keith

have got 1102 AD , enjoy.

Hi, Keith, I don’t recall any Bristols coming into Mitcheldean but leylandlover will correct me if I’m wrong.
1100, 1101 & 1102 were, if memory serves, all chopped down to make artic units sometime between 1960 & 1965.
It didn’t make them any faster!

I dont think any Bristols in my time there.1104 AD also.

Nearest thing I can recall, Bristol-wise, was some years later when Dave Read joined the “GMR Get-Rich-Quick” owner/driver scheme with a Leyland-powered Bristol & tipping trailer, Reg YAE34. A while after, his brother Harold was admitted into the same scheme with the ex-James Smith, ex-BRS 8-wheeler Atki, HJS30 which had been around the clock so many times that it got giddy!

That I do remember.

There’s a Bristol unit in the back corner of the yard but I don’t know if it was based there

Now I’m really confused.
Certainly looks like a Bristol in the background although I can’t recall one based there.
Secondly, I had thought that all the ex-Read flatbed Mammoths had disappeared by the time the first Big Js arrived. It would be interesting to find out either the fleet number or the reg. number of this particular Guy.

Thanks a bundle, pal. It’s as I suspected, GP109 was my first brand-new lorry.
And just in case anybody’s wondering, it had a 205 ■■■■■■■ fitted, not an 8-cyl Gardner!
