Glasgow.

I know its an old thread but for anyone reading nowadays… Glasgow is not a warzone! I am an intelligent, sensitive, caring, always happy to help guy and I’m from Glasgow. I have just met two English fellas in Lockerbie truck stop who love visiting and always have a great time. It is a city of culture and heritage and it’s a city of pride. I am disgusted and embarrassed by what happened to the poster who was assaulted on one occassion and his truck vandalised on the second because he is English. For the reason of balance I have decided to post this reply. Its also worth mentioning that I have been at the end of some really unsavoury verbal in England because I am Scottish. Never will I tar you all with the same brush as the idiotic minority… please have the same understanding back.

FLIP:
Theres a truck park at Wallneuk Rd Paisley by the Stags Head bar

I was there two weeks ago, absolutely fine and yes it is free. 5 min walk to the town centre shops/pubs/takeaways etc. The bar opposite the lorry park closed about 2.5 years ago!

Good Man!!!

I know its an old post but to have that happened to you and the truck you musthave been in a pretty bad area, Glasgow like any city has had its problems, nothing like some english towns that have had riots, there is plenty of services on the way in to stop, all depends on where the destination is, but to go back all the way to carlise wud be crazy, anyway hope things and your impression of Glasgow has changed.

I’m dropping a trailer in Glasgow at about 4pm this Sunday, not exactly sure where yet, and picking it up again sometime on Monday morning. Any ideas where I can park cab only and amuse myself,i.e couple of pints and chippy, in the evening? thanks in advance. Booty4099.

I’m sure someone will come up with something, but in all the years I was at it I found it better to give Glasgow a miss, stay outside of it. This was many years ago but the first time I stayed there, I got the ■■■■ kicked out of me for no other reason than the fact that I was English, the second time I was OK but when I got back to the truck it was trashed, no glass left in it, and everything of any value nicked. This can happen anywhere in the world, and I have mates thet have had this sort of problem in Lot’s of places, but it happened to me in Glasgow, so as I said I give it a miss.

Sort of answer I was expecting to be honest, perhaps I’ll bounce back to Carlisle for the night just to be safe!!

Theres a truck park at Wallneuk Rd Paisley by the Stags Head bar, spent many a happy night there :smiling_imp: no prob’s but not recently I must admit. There’s also a secure park just north of M8 by Paisley too but showers are the only facility there. Failing that you could run back to Crawdord Arms in Crawford village just south of Abington services, £15 receipt for parking gets you a free 3 course meal & shower & the locals in the bar are friendly  ,I’ve been parking there for 30 years now & have never had any problems. There are a couple more hidey holes round Milgavie & Kirkintilloch too but if you aren’t familiar with the area then it’s awkward to explain to you where to go.

Glasgow is a big city and without some idea of where you are going, then there isn’t going to be much help. I used to park at the SECC quite often with a show and use the Stirling Castle over the footbridge for the music, food and ladies who went in. I have parked in toll Cross for the weekend when we used to deliver to United Biscuits and even parked at the fruit market and had a few beers… I can give you a few pointers to the local massage parlours too if you need a “shower”

My bravest parking place was outside the Louden Tavern although it wasn’t until three months later I was warned about parking there, still no one stabbed me or picked up on my accent

Thanks for replies. I won’t know destination till i pick up trailer tomorrow morning, paperwork inside back doors as usual! Paisley sounds promising though.
