Why is this normal, and nothing to collect in the Malaga area,it is nearly a whole days driving,it can`t pay well.
It just is normal. If you were on your way back to the UK from Russia you would find that loads from Germany paid more than loads from Poland.
Was on for Keys transport, that became Phoenix, that is now Insight ltd for Steve Walker,it was a scenic run,he had a mineral water contract, down a long and dusty track.

The problem with the Malaga area (I live there by the way) is that apart from tourism it actually produces very little in the way of goods. With the exception of the Acerinox steel factory near Algeciras there is very little industry.
A lot of what is available for loading in the Andalucia which is largely orange pulp, olive oil, olive oil products etc is obviously loaded by the locals. The brits therefore have to get there backloads from further along the coast or inland - tiles from Castellon, Onions from pretty much anywhere, wine from Logrono etc…, or if you are on fridges produce from Almeria and Murcia.
I left spain a year ago and moved back to blighty, I was on for CITMA in Malaga but things were going bad then, you could just tell especially when the wages became 500 euros a month less than what we were used to then in feb of this year they finally closed putting spanish and uk drivers out of work this can only tell you that things in Malaga and Spain are very bad when spanish hauliers of 25 years are calling it a day
Its getting bad down there.
No exports coming out of Lisbon, always late night loading at the warehouses around Porto, and all day collecting groupage to finish off Saturday morning with the full load.
On the friday,it was normal to arrive at a shoe factory or textile,to see underage girls making the goods and very slowly packing and boxing it,you could be up in the mountains around Braga/Guimaraes/Braganza for 24 hours or more, even though the agent lies to say only loading in 2 hours.
Or a tilt strip down for marble “A” frames, then fill the trailer space around the frame.
The steaks up in the rural areas were as big as steering wheels.

Thats the problem working on percentage, when the rates drop so does the amount you earn. You will know as much as anyone how much rates have been cut in Spain over the past couple of years.

And sadly someone (Standard & Poors) switched the light off at the end of the tunnel the other day. They reduced Spains credit rating, so now sovereign debt has become a lot more expensive to service, so now there will be even less of what little the government has to try and invigorate the economy.
What about Portugal,even worse??

It is just terrible that countries, who have borrowed themselves into oblivion, can not get cheap loans any more
Maybe some day the three-day working weeks will end…
I use to tip seville use to run back to murcia to load as was about £800 load more than could get from over there plus was guarnteed a load
We always drive empty from Porto to Almeria or Murcia, I get paid by the kilometers so I don’t care.
Which way would you go,Porto/lisbon/Sevile/Malaga/ALlmeria or Porto to Salamanca/Madrid/Valencia to Almeria?
