german tolls

anyone know of a ‘dummy’ version of the system? to check for planning routes?

gets confusing sometimes when you go over there and you cant work out where you need to get off, so would be good to have a browse and see if my places is listed.

pretty sure it is this time. gonna be leaving the a81-e41 at junction 28. herrenburg?

and obviously the first stop that i come too will have where i start, so dont need to worry to much about that.

From what i can recall what i was told, is that you input the your destination then the machine will show a map of the route which you maybe able to modify, and it gives a certain time limit for the journey when it does the calculation for payment , I don’t know much more as every time i did the farther land the vehicle was fitted with the box that works from gps and sensors on the roadside

A81 Junc 17 stuttgart-Zuffenhausen ?http://goo.gl/maps/uzeOJ

if you go on the toll collect website you can order an atlas (free) of all the pay stations and junction names and maps around towns and cities its very usefull

you could just use google maps. distance from A to B x 25p per mile. or 18 cents per km.

Any decent new German road map has the autobahn junction names marked on it, as well as the junc’ numbers.
Those MAUT machines all go by junction names, knowing junction numbers is useless.
I’m fairly sure that the junc’ for Herrenburg is signed as Herrenburg. It’s the next one south from the Schoneberg services, just after the tunnel.

I’m out of practice with using those machines, I’ve had a box for the last 6 years or so, but I did everything through MAUT machine for a couple of years. The map they’ll send you is very basic, Autobahns and tolled B roads only, but it has every junction named and all the MAUT machine points marked, with an indexed address book for them at the back.

If you know where you are going, you can set up a lot of route on a card. You put in start point and an end point, then up to 4 other stop/via points to vary your route from the suggested route.
Via points have to be entered in the correct order, so for eg don’t put a stop at Stuttgart in, then realise you need to do a stop in Heilbronn and put that in. If you do that, you’ll pay for - Start point, Stuttgart, Heilbronn, Herrenburg, end point - unless that’s the way you want to do it. It needs to be entered as Start, Heilbronn, Stuttgart, Herrenburg, end.
They give you plenty of time to do the distance, but check your cards run-out time before pressing the final go button. It is possible to spend too much time on break, rest and loading/unloading, so that you might run out of time before you get to your end point.
Try to get your MAUT paid before joining the autobahn. You can be stopped and fined between the junction you join and the services you intend to get your MAUT from. Legally, you have to pre-pay for your autobahn travel.

Considering Travelling in from Venlo/Stralen unless you can suggest any thing else

Emmen, Meppen, Cloppenburg is cheaper. Less Maut more Vignette

correct and a fair bit faster as well plus the advantage of a dan good restaurant in Cloppenburg or if you prefer it there is a truckstop with maut machine just on the other side of the motorway when you join it
