Hi was talking to someone today on a cpc course and he said the best maps of europe are german. However all he could remember was they were called the “big book” or something similar and obviously in german.Apparently it is like the german version of ordanance survey and comes in a disc format for your laptop. Can anyone help with the correct name for the maps or even better a link to them.Thankyou.
These perhaps?..http://www.gofalk.com/
Always found them good for Germany(obviously) -they may well do a ‘Big Book’ .I always bought Michelin for France and Benelux-only personal preference though.
Thanks for your reply Sir not sure this is it. I will interrogate the next German student i find
Just spat my tea out laughing at the user name of warm wee bottle. Are talking of a small bottle or a urine bottle.
Cough go for the one that doesnt get me banned
I am using Navigon sat nav, which is German, and I have to say maps are brilliant (when it comes to both UK and Eastern Europe) and they also look the nicest from all sat navs I used, which in connection with really nice user interface makes it, IMHO, the best sat nav on the market. Shame Garmin took they over and extinguished the brand
Falk make good Town and City Plans, not quite to A to Z standard but have good index and detail. My favourite German map used to be the SuperStrassen
I am of the opinion that the best maps are printed in the company you are in although some of the languages can be quite difficult, also if you go to Bulgaria, make sure you have a map with both cyrillic and English

The best german maps for routing and navigation are from" PTV map and guide". Most transport companiys use the "map and guide professional"for route planning, when it is properly set up it works out 5 different routes and the costs down to a penny with the press of a button, but the full program costs thausands.
The program i use in the truck on the laptop is the "Map and guide truck navigater"just tip in the truck height, axle weights, max gross weight , dangerous goods,
and away you go. I believe the newest version for the laptop costs 189€,my version is 4 years old and hasnt been updated for 2 years and i get very few problems with it on my travels throughout euroland .

I remember the ones you mean. You could fold up,down or left to right, very useful.Blay foldex was another one.Not seen either for sale recently.
Thanks for your time people,i think i will go with the ptv pro version and possibly some falk maps for a look. I have little faith in satnav at this point in time.
