I know I’m probably a pain in the backside but anyone have any info on them as I’ve got an interview there this week
I don’t think they’ve ever stopped advertising for drivers for at least the past 10 years, so that should give you some idea of what to expect.
Lad I know worked for them and moaned to the boss that he had done 75 hours every week since he started for them. Boss said oh ■■■■■■■ hell we must be planning you wrong, you have another 9 hours available.
Also are you sure you are looking in the right places if you have gone from jobs in Burnley to jobs in Wakefield?

If I’ve to travel I’d prefer tramping like I am now. Like I said the moneys decent here I just can’t do with the clowns that own and the shed I have to drive

That sounds about right. Going back a few years they had a couple of blinged up Renaults for the yes men but the rest of the fleet were battered FH12s and XFs. Looking on Flickr it looks like they’ve bought some half decent trucks now - XF SSCs, Merc high cab, Volvo FH big cab, Scania toplines, all less than 5 years old from their reg numbers. They’ll certainly be expecting 6 days and 80 hours a week out of you to pay for those.

That’ll be ok as there’ll be nowt else do at weekends with the restrictions and I can’t go on holiday so I might as well earn some cash

I wouldn’t give a toss what I was driving if the money was good, can’t think where you’d be in Huddersfield though that pays good.
Local firm to me and they do advertise regular.
From what I understand the money is not bad for West Yorkshire.
Units are not the best but do have some decent ones and I hear they want you to work for your brass and are very good at getting the maximum out of you…
I’d give it a go if I was out of work but no way would I tramp anymore iv had it with that over the years, off night out doe me fine now
They can’t really do that much work, I imagine that half a day would be spent looking down side streets and any available scrap of land trying to find a trailer that could be hidden anywhere around Wakefield!

I’d rather feel confident in the vehicle I was driving but that’s just me regardless of the money. I didn’t say it was good money I said it was decent. 600+ in my hand for driving an 18T for me is decent

If you’re looking for the perfect job mate, good boss, top notch kit, and good money (and when I say ‘good money’… I ain’t talking 80 hours work for getting what equates to 50 hours pay either)…and if you find it, please let me know, so I can get a job there.
Because that job does not exist anymore, and if it does you have to wait for the guy who is in it to snuff it, cos he sure as hell ain’t giving it up.
Everything in general haulage on the whole is dog ■■■■ these days, if you can manage decent money (looking at your other post not bad for a rigid btw) who gives a ■■■■ if the truck ain’t a superdoopermegatoplinegiggaspace with ■■■■ spot lights. just clean it up and customise the interior to as comfortable and pleasant as you can…■■■■ what the exterior looks like, that is your guvnor’s responsibility.
As for working for clowns, newsflash…we all do !.
You just need to keep your head down, and make life as good as you can for yourself, and allow em enough rope to hang themselves.
Better the devil you know is the way I see it these days, you start somewhere new, you’re the new boy who gets all the ■■■■ for the first few months, you get sick, start at a similar crap company to start the whole process of ■■■■ all over again…and maybe again.and again.

Who’s asking for the perfect job or a blinged up top of the range motor? Reliable with the correct tackle to do the job is all I ask and one which doesn’t have the front panel held on by cable ties. As for working for clowns in 30yrs of driving I’ve worked for a clown until.now
Ok, misunderstanding…you just crack on then pal.

The jobs do exist but you won’t find them at any company that has “transport”, “haulage” or “logistics” somewhere in their name. Most drivers are too thick to realise this and so flit from one logistics company to another hoping to find the holy grail but, once again, end up disappointed that it’s the same [zb] as the last place except for a different name badge on the cab door.
Own account work is where you’ll find the best balance of respect, pay and conditions, but you’ll first need to prove that you’re an asset to the company and that could mean having to drive some old heap in the early days as that’s all they can afford. The place where I’m at started with a battered 1.2m km Scania P310 day cab (at 32 tonnes) which did 20 mph on the hills and used to breakdown nearly every week with some fault or another resulting in a taxi to the nearest B&B. But by keeping it clean, looking after it as best one can, not having accidents and being flexible when the SHTF shows the gaffer that you’re a valuable asset and one to keep. Also being there from nearly the start means you’re on first name terms with the gaffer and you chat to them every day just like you would another driver. 4 years down the line and a few slighty less battered secondhand trucks later plus a couple of pay rises, I get asked what new truck I’d like and to go online to the manufacturer’s website, spec it how I want and send him the link . We’ve now got 2 new high spec S-series with alloys, skirts and the factory light pack and 3 brand new trailers coming next year. Unsurprisingly, the drivers at other big companies who are in the same industry as us who said “you wouldn’t get me driving that old ■■■■■■■■■■■■■” 4 years ago, now see the new Scania’s and want to come work for us
. They are unable to connect the dots and so will continue working for XYZ Logistics Ltd doing 4 nights out and 70 hrs a week in a fleet spec Merc for £10 an hour whilst whinging to anyone who’ll listen about how the job has gone to the dogs. More fool them.
I wouldn’t…
Go near a haulagelogisticstransport company now.
I’ve been agency on an own account operator for the last five years and the difference is chalk and cheese.
Hat tip to maoster for pointing out Gee’s Wakefield ‘okey cokey’ with trailers abandoned everywhere.

Yes but a little newsflash for you … the good own account jobs are few and far between. Of course they are out there but a lot have handed the reins over to transport, logistics and haulage companies.
In fact the four big supermarkets round my way, one has the transport done by Wincanton and two have the warehouse and transport done by Wincanton. The other has the transport done by Stobarts.
Of the two own account jobs I have looked into properly in the last couple of years one was midnight to 4am starts, nights out and the office playing at being a transport company with silly backloads.
The other was noon to 5pm starts with regular reduced daily rests and pulled in the office if you stop for a ■■■■.
I’m not saying that there aren’t good own account jobs out there but they ain’t all a golden ticket nor are those that work in for profit transport doing because they are, in your words thick.
