Hi all,
First post! Was at our yard today and my inquisitive geekiness took over.
I’m a DGSA and thought I knew all the plates a lorry has, however I seen a lorry leaving our yard today displaying a silver plate with a capital letter A on it.
Can someone put me out of my misery and let me know what this means? I know it wasn’t carrying and dangerous goods from where it cane from in our yard!
Have a side bet with a colleague of who finds the answer first.
So I’m siding with the “if you can’t find it…chest and ask the masses” camp
Cheers
Abfall or Avfal in Europe for Rubbish or waste.
Atkinson in Oldham
Wow, not half as glamorous as I thought! Would explain it though as it was an IRF lorry on European plates and the fact it was in a waste

Nobbynufc,
Wheel Nut has this correct, but I can add a little to it.
According to a German law about transfrontier waste Abfallverbringungsgesetz (shortened to AbfVerbrG) § 10, the plate is supposed to be 40cm X 30cm (same size, positioning and orientation as an ADR orange plate) and be white reflective with the capital letter “A” (20cm min height) in black.
The fine for contravention of plate marking requirements (at AbfVerbrG § 18) can be up to €20,000, so I’d say that the guy needs to get his plate(s) correct before entering Germany.
