Gatehouse Inhabitants

Firstly, I don’t know if this thread will be allowed.

I do think there should be a name and shame thread for the most obnoxious gatehouse inhabitants though. If we don’t do anything, the bad ones won’t be rooted out, and the good ones won’t be recognised.

I’d like to hear stories about gatehouse staff, after all, this forum is for drivers, by drivers.

I’ll start with Waitrose Aylseford: Lovely bloke on the gate, lovely peeps at goods in. Recommended!

Did that earlier! Geezer asked me not to “barge in”. I had simply walked in and asked him to look after my keys until Monday.

I asked him if he would be there all weekend, turns out he would be. I knew that, but given he asked me my name after working out of there for the last eight weeks, I felt it was justified

Lost count of the amount of idiot gatemen Iv had run ins with…

I had one today at a collection site in Bilston. “What you need to do drive us reverse like this instead of the way you’re doing it”.

My response…I’ll do it my way cos quicker and safer. G4S guy, he sulked off back to his empire, sorry meant gatehouse.

Love it when they try telling me how to drive.

You beat me to it…however they cannot have any impotence as the buggers seem to be breeding and the race expanding.

Not gate house but I went to one of our customers the other day and when we get there we have to go to the office to book in, go to allocated loaded trailer, open it up and strap it down, leave it open and return to office for them to come and check it then strap it all up. The guy that was to check my load was moaning, telling me I should bring the lorry up to the office as he’s not got time for all this. I reminded him that it’s their rules not our and we’ve not got time to do what we are asked to do but we do it as that’s what’s required

Coke Edmonton - at night there’s a bloke in the booking-in office I’ve not seen until recently. Indian, short beard, balding on top, around 40ish. He’s always got his earphones in and watching some bollywood film on his computer. I opened the window and he didn’t notice. So I said “hello mate”, and he looked up and didn’t say anything, just put his clipboard in front of me and returned to his film. I filled it in, and waited for him to look up and take it, but he was too engrossed in his film, so I waited, and waited, and waited, until I had to say “here you are”, and he took it. He booked me in, and without taking his eyes off his film handed me a pager. I’ve dealt with him 2 or 3 times now and never heard him utter a single word, not even the courtesy of a grunt. Ignorant zb.

The most horrible gatehouse bloke is @ the P+O Gladstone dock were you take or pick up the unaccompanied trailers, I have never met such a arrogant guy, the rest of them are ok

Hmmm, lemme see now…
Builder Depot, Edgware rd, I’ve done 5 or 6 drops there now, excellent! Friendly, helpful, decisive, not afraid to tell Billy the Builder to get out of the effin way! Loved it

Selco, opposite side of Edgware Rd. Same day, 30 mins later. Meh, was told not to go in to the yard as it was full (It was quite clearly empty, and MASSIVE). Parked up 100m away on the road.
I told securiguy that I had 2 small items to deliver…both together weighed 5kg. I offered to carry them to the goods in door. Nope.
Pfft, I don’t care, I’m hourly paid.
Sat in me truck.
Called the TM.
Securiguy came to me wagon with a trolley.
Dropped items onto trolley, securidude signed me sheet, job done.

It wouldn’t happen to be a timber firm in Stoke On Trent would it

Palletline central hub (Birmingham) night shift at the gatehouse - great guys. Nutters at times, but always great. I’ve known one of them for 15 years and never had a bad experience at all.
