I got this virus last year - same shield logo. I got a warning that my Adobe thing needed updating. I clicked on & the virus took over. But it was made to look like a police notice & the fine was £250 for entering an illegal site. The only way I got rid of it was to press the start button to kill the laptop then keep my finger on F8 & restart it. In safe mode restore the system & its gone!
I would be very surprised if restarting in safe mode actually removed the malware, it may have reset it
but I suspect it will still be there, waiting in the background. Strongly recommend you scan your PC with
Malwarebytes to remove it. Cryptolocker often goes along with Gameover Zeus.
This malware has made a resurgence over the last couple of days and is the one the warnings have
been in the media about.
I don’t know about the latest virus but I removed the fake police fine one last year and it had the same logo.
It took three days searching the net and getting complicated advice until I figured meself.
Eset online scanner eset.co.uk/Antivirus-Utiliti … ne-Scanner will remove Zeus (safe mode with networking) & it’s worth running weekly anyway…better than Malwarebytes IMO.
Cryptolocker is a different beast as once it’s run it has already encrypted your files & these can’t be recovered unless you pay the ransom & get the unlocking key! Anti virus programs can remove Cryptolocker from your system but the files stay encrypted.
The best way to avoid both is never click on email attachments or links in emails unless you are absolutely certain you know what they are/where they’re from. Make sure that windows is updated & that you have antivirus installed & up to date.
Just in case you still get infected use an online backup service to save all your important files… eg symform.com/ which gives 10gig space free.
