i’ve never really bothered with front fog lights before but when i put them on last night there was little differance to the visibility is there any point in using them
They are incredibly good at annoying oncoming motorists.
Pillocks in cars think it makes them look cool.

Not in my experience…Loads of richard head truck drivers use them in daylight clear conditions, it doesn`t look cool, it looks as though they are ignorant, which they surely are.
only time I have known them to be of any use is in dense fog without the headlights on, they don’t reflect back as much (IF they are adjusted properley)
But seeing as how you are required to use dipped headlights in fog…
you can also be done for using them in non foggy conditions
if i find any of my drivers with them on un-necessarily, i bollok them, they usually turn them off after that
Fronts are a pain in the arse for on-coming traffic but are nowhere near as bad as the rear fogs.
Slight mist, a bit of patchy fog this week and every man and their dogs driving around with the fogs, a fair few lorries as well.
I think it’s all a part of the selfish culture of our drivers. ‘I want to be seen, balls to the rest of you’… Can’t stand it.
i don’t think they make a lot of difference to me apart from making the fog a but brighter , but i do a fair bit of
‘in the middle of nowhere type lanes’ driving & they do help find my way along the hedges without having to bounce off them !

Thank god for sanity…Anyone who uses front fogs in non foggy conditions is just vain, in a ‘look at me’ kind of way, which just happens to be incredibly sad, as well as breaking the law.

I don’t think the use of rear fogs is so much selfish, more to do with people not really understanding how foggy it should be when they switch them on and not thinking when they should switch them off. Mt pet hate in foggy conditions is drivers who think side lights are good enough to be seen by other drivers, you see the vehicle before you see thier lights.
I also find in daylight foggy conditions wearing sunglasses seems to let you see a bit further.

I used to think that too
So I asked my optician when getting new specs about it.
He told me NO WAY Anything that reduces the amount of light entering your eye reduces your vision.
maybe its all in the mind!

Yes, they think that they are even cooler, because they have they foggies on AND they drive a big lorry

Fair point and I’m not saying I’m right so you all should do the same. It just seems to cut through that glare you get in daylight fog.

so, from what he has said, you should not even wear sunglasses in bright sunshine, you are reducing the amount of light entering your eyes, so this reduces your vision
me thinks, i’ll carry on with the sunglasses in bright light and take my chances

I don’t think it’s that difficult to judge when to use rear fogs, if you are struggling to see the tailights of the car <100m in front of you then it’s time to turn them on. As for front fogs I only ever find them useful in unlit rural areas, with just the sidelights on, cuts down on glare.

I think that we all know that bright sunshine dazzles and we need to reduce the amount of light getting to our eyes.
As long as the amount doesn’t fall below the optimum level it shouldn’t affect our eyes.
I would have posted the full discussion with the optician if I had realised it was necessary
If used in bad fog they pick out ns verge and white line better, when I say bad fog I dont mean morning mist,I mean real pea souper

Well you wouldn’t think it should be difficult, there is even advice on the distance to use them in the Highway code, but some people seem to put the on at the mearist hint of a patch of mist.
The only time people with front fogs bother me is when it’s a clear sunny day day and you see someone in a vw polo or something silly with headlights on full beam with fogs, I just don’t get it
As for rear fogs, if I’m on a busy motorway and it’s foggy I can’t see the point of putting them on, with all the other vehicles around I’m pretty visible, on the other hand if I’m on an early morning run on the A303 for example and it’s foggy I’ll have them on as most of the time I’m on my own so I’m not as visible to approaching cars.
