Does anyone know of someone who has converted a tractor unit 4x2 into a motorhome by fixing such items as table, chair, storage and room for a microwave/hotplate. Apparently, this is DVLA’s definition of a motorhome, to have those fixed items, and of course sleeping accomodation!
I am wanting to buy a tractor unit 4x2 to be able to do this. So if anyone reading this has done it or knows of someone who has please let me know.
Thank you
Gerard
dvla require more than that though hence why a lot of camper vans are still listed as vans .
i have a list after going through all this with the dvla somewhere will dig it out .
the 5th wheel would have to be removed though i would imagine unless you pulled trailer for your own use ie not hire or reward .but if 5th wheel removed would also imagine speed limiter also could be
biggist point no one is mad enough to do such thing why is beyond me when you can have something that does more than 8mpg unless its purley for getting around high fees etc its not worth the hassle in my opinion .
look into race car transporters ie living accomadation and storage

It’s going to have to be a very small table, chair and cooker to fit in a Euro type tractor unit.Just get a 4 wheeler rigid or convert a double decker or single decker bus.You can drive a bus on a car licence when all the seats are stripped out but not most tractor units because they’re over 7.5 tonnes.

Oh not this one again again again again.
Why not just buy an American unit already all fitted out and lots more room?
ask hanky spanky
hes got a 6x2 hotel
why does the fifth wheel have to be removed
hitch:
why does the fifth wheel have to be removed
I can only assume that it is because he intends to extend the cab back to where the fifth wheel is now
I have seen something like this done before.
Basically it was a carnies ERF with a caravan bolted onto the chassis, it was a C series i think, 4x2.
Can’t see the point, just put a normal hitch on the back and tow a caravan!
My roadtrain costs £80 to insure and £165 to tax.
I assume that you want to convert it because you don’t have at least a class 2? If so are you aware that a motorhome over 3.5 tonnes you still need a class 2 for? (C1 at least). The exemption no longer exists.
Your only hope is if you got your car licence before Jan 97 to buy a unit that weighs in at less than 7.5 tonnes and have it plated at 7.5t.

did you have fun at the local lesuire centre in cwmbran or wherever it was in wales?
Ofcourse the OP’s budget may not run to some of our suggestions.
A 10+ yr old 4 x 2 ERF with some fittings from a scrap caravan might come in a little cheaper

Now that is what you call a sleeper cab!!!
I would love to take a rigid and do something like this to it, the ultimate MotorHome, IMHO if you are gonna do it, do it properly and use a rigid chassis to build something Substantial.

There used to be a Leyland Marathon tractor unit doing the ‘Truckfest’ circuit in the middle 90’s that had been made into a ‘motorhome’. It was painted up in the ‘TNT Overnight Express’ orange & white livery, saw it at Driffield and it was also featured in a couple of magazine articles around the same time. IIRC it was a day cab unit and had been fitted with a box body on the chassis and then fitted out as a small ‘motorhome’ Gotta say I thought it looked alright at the time

I have a class 1 provisional licence and whilst I can learn to drive in a class 1 vehicle I can not take my test in it!!! So I thought the only way to get around it is to take FULL advantage of my C1 licence and drive an artic cab without taking my test. Im also getting older and I need to slow down and driving an artic will slow me down unless of course I can have the speed restricter removed. Hmmm theres another question, is one able to remove the speed restricter if the vehicle is for personal use only and not for the transporting of goods?
