Fridged Freight

Hello Jamie, welcome to Trucknet. I know the bloke leaning on the F88 and pictured with the group of girls and little lad but just can’t think of his name at the moment, unusual for me, but I’m sure he went on Salvesons in later years.
Anyway, one thing is for sure, Bill ( LB 76 ) will be pleased to see your your posting when he next logs on. Regards,Haddy, Gt. Yarmouth.

Hi there Jamie, what took you so long to find us? , i remember your dad very well he showed me the ropes first time i went to Belfast and then showed me a good watering hole in the town once we were tipped, after we had quenched our thirst it was full speed for Dublin to load in the morning and when we came to the Eire border i eased off and expected Jimmy to do the same , but no he kept on going and as it was new territory to me i followed expecting a row with the (then) unguarded border guards but they just looked up and shook their heads as we swept through , i doubt if you could do that now!

i am going to have to get that picture enlarged to have a look (senile old git)

Just had another look, it’s definatly Jimmy Mac in the photo with the girls, then it looks like Alex Drysdale in between Kenny Bell and Jimmy i have no idea who the other one is with the girls (honest) could it be taffy with MAH as he used to drive that one before it was crashed, just enlarged it and it is deffo Alec in the middle shot

I am going to guess that the F88 and the AEC in the parking area are in France. The bull nosed van next to the Volvo left hand indicator looks like it may be selling frites :stuck_out_tongue:

My only doubt is that the parking lines are yellow.

Great period shots of family and scenery though.

well actually, you can again now Bill  Hopefully see you at Gaydon week after next? Will have my poor imitation of the EFE model with me!

Yeah i realise that now jj , but i was thinking of 1971 onwards with the troubles and all that you would probably collected a few bullet holes as one of FF did back then, just for fun- not for not stopping! looking forward to seeing your great models again this year, any new ones ?

Hello Bill, Do you remember who the driver was that was hijacked and his trailer used as a barricade in Ireland? I seem to remember it was all over the news. Is that the one you meant ?

Regards

Gilbert

Yes i think that was the one Gilbert but time does no one any favors mate and my memory is getting patchy. maybe someone will remember for us !

ive been waiting for you to give me your photos so i could put them up Jamie! Well done for doing it yourself mate, i told you there was a lot of interest on here.
P.S when are you going to update your ‘other’ website■■?

LB76:
Hi carl and thanks for the comments mate. Its no easy task to do a book (ask ash!) , but it has got to be good or i wont be involved, i dont do 2nd rate stuff! ash has been the driving force behind it as well so with a little luck we will have more news in about a year! hang in there

Best I get my finger out then Bill :unamused:

Great picture again, had all those wonderful AECs gone by then?

LB76:

I seem to remember that this one ended up on its side one Sunday morning on its way to Harwich with Jimmy Campbell. The load of frozen lambs was transferred onto 2700VF, and if my memory is right, The drag was in a field and the truck in the ditch! David (Tiddy) Garnham from Diss pulled the whole lot up onto its wheels with one of his ancient AEC timber trucks, they were put back together and driven back to Diss! They don’t make them like that any more![

I reckon some of the best pictures of real working lorries I’ve ever seen you’ve put on here LB76,
Thanks a lot Chap.

Hi Bill
few more from the old album I have been meaning to do this for ages Carl told me about it ages ago but I could do with a few more hrs in the day if you know what I mean!! sounds just like the old man always in a hurry! Wish I could remember.
(as soon as I can Kindle been spending to much time on them blue low loaders!!!)

Getting very near the end of my photo’s now hope some more come in from the cold to keep this thread going , maybe we will have more luck after Gaydon (nothing like hope)

Brilliant thread Bill, I’ve been watching for some weeks but I’ve now joined TN just to view the pics.

I am more than sure Graham you will have a lot to add a regards knowledge and anecdotes , welcome to Trucknet mate
