Fridge trailer?

Whats the best make of fridge trailer to buy to do mainly europe and what fridge unit is the best?
it will be doing a lot trips to south of spain and most of the work will be frozen,
what fridge unit is the best Carrier or Themo king?

In my experience Thermo King units seem to be more reliable than Carrier, though the Carrier is quieter.

I like a Chereau fridge, with a modern G&A a close second. Schmitz, Lamberet, SOR etc are all fine for the first few years, but in my opinion are not built to last.

I would agree… Carrier are mostly electric components , TK, work of Pulleys and Belts or they used to, not sure about the new model of Fridge.

But History of the company swings it for me, it used to be PETTER and TK, now its Carrier and TK… TK all the way…it was the Carrier Vector unit that was “accountable” for the fire in the Blanc tunnel…

Chereau or G&A, the others are good but the working life is not as durable as the first 2.

So there ye have it!

Are you buying new ? or SH? A good unit SH would be the SL300, would be the one I’d go for on a Chereau or G&A

Good luck.

I think they’re all pretty much the same nowadays with any poor manufacturers already out of business.

Just basically the newer the better particularly as it’s frozen down to Spain (wouldn’t want the fridge breaking down!), you will be caning the gas oil for the fridge in the summer. Just try and get a next gen, latest model fridge unit with max power from either carrier or thermo king to try and save a bit of juice.

If you are buying new, I think Krone have introduced a trailer that has vacuum insulated panels for greater thermal efficiency and also you can spec solar panels on the roof which presumably would reduce the fuel use even further, these are probably expensive but would be worth getting a quote.

Get a quote from everyone though, Schmitz, Montracon, G&A, Krone, Cherau, Lamberet (don’t spec them compression buffers on the back though as they break).

Chereau are the Rolls Royce of fridges and Thermo King are the best thing to stick on the front.

Lamberet are pretty good fridges.

We are after a second hand about 2 years old.
We have already got to Lamberet’s but are have a lot of trouble with the back door seals ( they both let in water at the top they have been in for repair 4 times and have always come out the same and new seals are not cheep.
Thanks for the replys

Theromking has a far superior dealer network in Europe. Although these same dealers can help with carriers. Look for a carrier agent in Spain and they are very few and far between. Having said that fridges are now very reliable and need little attention.

Twin evap fridge - you may not do twin temperature loads but 2 evaps in a fridge will pull the temp down quicker .
My opinion - a Gray and Adams with a twin evap Carrier fridge on the front . As new as you can afford.

Most of those fridges all use the same sandwich side ,front, and floor panels
I have both fridge units carrier better for frozen, you would need a T/K 400 to be equivalent.
Twin vap not really wanted for fruit from Spain as with 4meter height the back vap is in the way.

The last fridge transport company I worked for had Chereau + Thermo King trailers In the begining I worked there, but over time changed the fridge motors over to Carrier as the Carrier motor was more reliable & economical (& quieter) than the TK’s that were being replaced…
