I bought a fridge but the locks are seized up, looks like the locks have not been used in a long time
The keyhole is crusted up with gunk and the key will not go in the slot.
Anyone have any tips on how to renew them so they can be locked again?
It is this type of barn door lock with the lock behind the flap, as in the pic below.
Thanks
Don`t waste time with original locks. Fit summat like this.
Visible and strong. And if some scrote fills the lock up with super glue it is possible to grind it off.

Waste of time amongst the easiest locks to pick will act as a deterent to an oppportunist but not much more if you can grind it off then so can the thief. Take a look at Maple fleet services for proper trailer security systems if load security is critical.
Cheers yes on multidrop so it’s just for the opportunists whilst unattended for short periods, handy to use those without bringing out the big padlocks each time.
Will be getting a decent padlock like above for overnight.
Cheers

Im only occasionally on our fridges, but do use those container type locks on 8 or 10 stops a day. When in the swing it only takes a minute to release or fit them. No big deal unless youre on many more daily, when time might add up.

Picking a lock on a bench isn`t the same as picking a lock in “the wild” I would have thought. And any visible lock will help a bit.
Grinding off a lock in a truck park will attract more attention than doing so at home base…I hope.
No system is 100% secure against a determined thief, it is true.
Not a perfect solution, but not a waste of time either, IMHO.

It is well known that Spanish locks are easily compromised the fact it costs £27 is a clue as I said will deter the opportunist the keys to these locks are very simple to copy and common to get with only a small number of variants in the keys. Even if the thief is unsuccessful at picking it the damage done usually renders it unservicable and requiring it to be cut off better to spend a bit more and spend it once rather than every couple of months finding yourself needing to get a lock cut off.
Just to add a crowbar will bend the door bars enough to slide the lock off a 30 second job for someone who knows what they are doing

Was looking at this maple barn door lock.
Bit pricy but you reckon it’s decent?

It is a bit pricey but you will only buy it once tamper proof and a much more secure lock on it , we use this sytem on European work and have had no problems with it. If you fit this type of system get a rubber cushion fitted to the door to prevent damage to the fridge side when the door is opened.
