hi guys
I’m currently doing my Transport managers CPC with a view to start my own business as a freelance transport manager.
is it worth it? is there any money in it?
I have done it in previous years but in the end I could not be bothered chasing either service records or tacho charts, (which were normally of no use to man nor beast legally) and sometimes the money, so just kept it in reserve as a possible part timer when I retired.
thanks for your reply, what sort of money does it command? i’m doing it primarily because i want to increase the amount of work i can undertake and i have a passion for business and TM seems the most likely route forward from a driver?
i know of people who only sub contract work to third parties, with no vehicles of their own, just take a cut and pass it on, not saying I like the idea but people do it and make money. but it is a double edged sword as once the job is known the rates to do the job are also known, in with a swift undercut and the jobs theirs,

You are restricted in the number of vehicles and operators you can control, I’d say you would be lucky to earn any more than the average driver.

A mate of mine did this quite successfully a few years ago, but, the pack of cards came crashing down when he suffered a few bad debts …
As he was doing very well, he never thought he would get burnt, so, he spent it as fast as it came in…no room for error with this business model…Whoooosh gone, bang…the end

Maximum of 50 vehicles and four operators.
