Freelance/self employed truck drivers uk

Anyone been down this road offering services at a time and location convient to yourself?

I’ve worked for companies before, but the routes they give you are dangerous and difficult and don’t give you a choice especially for new drivers.

If you’re touting yourself as self employed to haulage companies you need to be competent and able to do most things and go anywhere without hand holding.

Not quite sure what you mean by dangerous and difficult routes, I can’t really think of anywhere in this country that is. There’s a few that are tight on corners, a few that are tight on width, a few hills where you’ve got to be a bit careful with the speed but it’s very rare you’ll end up on those unless doing stuff like farms or transporting timber from forests.

If anyone is claiming to be a self employed truck driver don’t be surprised if HMRC ask for proof of an O licence as an owner driver.

it will never be convenient to you as the driver, as the operator will want the load delivered to fulfil their obligation to the client and make an operating profit, so your welfare will be way down the list, and it certainly won`t be suitable for a new driver.

Maybe he means like delivering to Barking or most of East London at like 2am :grimacing:
Sure there are many other dodgy areas as well. :stuck_out_tongue:

As for difficult routes. You will have to expand on that one. I am just completely spitballing here but I suspect 90% of jobs are within like 10-20 miles from a main road.
I may be wrong on the exact figure but it is quite rare to be like troddling long a narrow country lane for hours.

Either way if you are fussy about what type of runs you wanna do maybe its not for you.
