Free Enterprise 1

Anyone ever sail on this illustrious vessel built in 1963?

She’s just set sail for the breaker’s yard in Turkey - 50 years of sea service - Not bad eh?

If you remember her raise a glass to her memory. She was a trail blazer leading to the FE2 and all the others.

Sad to hear she’s on her way to the breakers, sailed on her many times, and enjoyed many a pint at the bar, I’ll raise a glass to her.

Ossie

And here she is at Tyne Dock North Shields 2012, Regards Larry.

When Invincible was on the Tyne in '82 for her sea trials in the North sea I had a pal who was PO Artificer who was in the crew,he wasn’t far short of retiring when the Falklands war started and he was totally ■■■■■■ off when he had to sail South,he told me that the trials hadn’t finished and the ship had one hell of a vibration on one of the engine shafts which they had to repair while under way south.Anyhow,he came back in one piece but reckoned it had been touch and go wether they got down to the Falklands at the time.Cheers Dennis.

here’s a shortcut to a photo of her under tow from a British built tug even two years older than she is!
