Sir +:
I seem to remember some of Fransen’s DAFs (space cabs?) with the company name in Cyrillic script
above the windscreen.I believe they were doing British Embassy supplies to Moscow, and possibly
other places within SU.Yeh thats right they did the embassy’s and the western hotels and the such, there was a book published which followed one of there drivers (tony Meddings) to Moscow in a smart Strato called the Silver Night,
Indeed, the book is titled ‘A Thousand Miles From Nowhere’ by Graham Coster. I’m currently half way through after borrowing it from a driver I work with who used to drive for Fransens, Brian Cooper his name.
What is the title of the other book mentioned about the load of hanging to Germany?
Cheers.
One from transportphotos.com
I used to deal with Fransen many yewars ago… And was trying to remember the Surnames of Martin and Steve who
were in the office towards the end… both really nice guys to deal with and a pleasure to work with.
Anyone tell me ?
The scania 141 pictured above xue was driven by Brian Fenwick from new.I used to meet Brian on the olau line out of sheerness back in the 70,s and early 80,s.Brian lived near smithfield meat market and always kept his lorries well clean. One of his jobs with this 141 was to take a load of ships stores to valencia. He missed the ship and had to take the ferry to palma majorca,he waited there for 2 weeks to meet the ship which was on a cruise.
Some great pics thanks, I remember brian cooper he drove a low cab volvo f12, had the cleanest cab i’ve ever seen and that includes show trucks.
I sure it had done over a million miles and still on its original engine and gearbox when it was sold.
got some pics of the book a day with a lorry driver for you all too, thinking of sticking it on e-bay in a minute to make my first mil well i can dream.

I recognise the name but cant remember Brian Fenwick, but a simaler story happened to my older bother and dad. My dad was given a load of ship stores to meet a cruise ship in Gibraltar, but it was the last week of the summer holidays, so my brother pleaded with my mom to go on this final trip, she said he could go as long as he would be back for start of school one week later, my dad convinced her that this wouldn’t be a problem straight down to gib, tip then reload something like fruit or flowers from that area and be back for school, all was going to plan until they got to gib and found the cruise ship had been delayed for ten days in rough sea , think they had a large portion of tongue pie when they returned.
Hey djdaddydan, I’ve sent you a PM mate.

I am with you on that looks real tidy if you look on page 1 of the thread i have uploaded a couple of pics of the book
Brilliant pictures! It’s all coming back to me now! I must’ve borrowed that boom from our library hundreds of times when I was a kid!
Great unit that, like I said with the reefer. My favourite trucks of that time were f12s and daf 2800/3300’s, thinn I’m going to have to build a fransen daf model now! Thanks very much for posting those pictures! Cheers harryvr6.

No prob will have to put pics up if you do make the model be good to see, there has been a couple of fransens models made in the past this is a tekno
one that was given to me that was in mint condition until it fell off the wardrobe doh
Also found some more pics of fransens from across the years (not all taken by me so credit to the people who took them)
No worries mate, will do, pretty much decided to build one now! Got a few on the go but with having young kids progress with the builds is very slow ! Cheers, harryvr6.
I remember running back up through France with two Fransen guys with top sleeper Dafs in the late eighties, rushing for a boat as usual but when we got to Cherbourg the seamen were on strike so we ended up sitting there for a few days. I can remeber one of them was a burly black fella but cannot remember any names…

Neville. Was Martin originally a driver. The name rings a bell with a little chap who used to drive a wagon and drag for Fransens.
Tony Meddings pops his head into Trucknet occasionally, not sure whether he posts though.
