I didn’t realise how much time I spent talking to myself until watching roadhawk playback
I left mine playing back on the laptop and went upstairs to the loo, on the way back down i heard the missus laughing, went in and asked her what was funny and she said “i can’t believe your arguing with the satnav, and you let the sat nav win !! you even said sorry to it when the road it told you to go down was right and you were wrong” bloody stupid technology !!

Great idea.Should be made compulsory. They could prevent a lot of accidents which can only be a good thing.
i dont think they will prevent accidents, but they will deffo help out with who’s fault it was and assist with claims. thats what they are there for
i heard a story of two chaps being sacked for smoking in the cab caught out by the cameras reflection in the front mirror…

I suppose it is only a matter of time before we have to have signs informing other drivers that a camera is installed on the vehicle. Everywhere seems to have to advertise the fact that they are recording and no doubt we will be included at some point. One other point, if employers/insurers watched the footage they might realise how many accidents WE avoid each day due to other drivers actions.
The point about seeing the accidents that are avoided is a fallacy as they only record when tripped and, apart from the potholes/sleeping policeman you need to have an incident to start the recording. Also consider the amount of really boring footage to sift through to get any of use. Edit to add - All the time recording or manual trip, which ours have, would be necessary to get all the near misses.
That is the point, they are only interested in accidents that happen and then we are the villains, they are not interested in the fact that we meet situations all day long and most of the time we avoid the accidents that would have been caused by someone else’s poor driving. If insurers took note of the bad driving then they could adjust premiums accordingly, if the registration number is visible then there is no argument, the policyholder would have to pay. One possibility is that the standard of driving might, and I say might, improve.
I said something similar a while back, but I said get rid of fully comp insurance. If people screw up and write off a 20 - 50 grand motor, and gotta pay for it out of their own pocket, they’ll slow down.
We have been looking at getting forward facing cameras also, what ones have people found the best for quality and price
i just got a £25 one off ebay.
Yes, but where’s the link, commonrail? I’ve just got a compact camera that I won’t lose (or break I hope) that records HD video, some big SD cards, spare batteries, £65 the lot, and I’m not expecting it to go wrong! Had to go a bit Heath-Robinson to get it to stay in one (correct) place though on the dash. I’d take a photo of the set up, but…

I’m not seeing many good reviews for that one. I guess you get what you pay for though, eh?

i don`t use the night vision mode,as you tend to get glare off street lighting,on coming cars etc
you have to buy your own memory card…but i just used the 2gb one out of my camera.
2 gb stores 3x3min clips then records over them.
instead of saving individual clips(should an accident occur)i just would remove the card and insert a spare which i carry.
my camera may not be the exact same one in the advert…but they`re all the same imo…

I can recommend this one too, for the money its a great bit of kit. You ll need an sd card from ebay also. It ll take up to 32gb but i opted for a 16gb.

Im impressed. Thats alot better qaulity than i expected from one of those!
Thanks commonrail, seems good enough to do the job, considering what you paid for it.
you wrote…

is that 9 mins recording, or should that read 3x 30 mins?
no thats 9 mins...which is plenty, seeing as your only interested in the last few seconds before a crash. i do have a 32gb card which stores loads of 3 min clips...but imo it
s needless.

I’ve just bought exactly same one of eBay, does it automatically record over on a loop, on that 2gb SD card, because that’s all I want it to do just in case something happens in front of me, don’t want to be searching hrs of footage to find the incident, only thing I’m having trouble with is setting date and time up, instructions are a little vague…
What’s prompted me to get one, was a woman in a car diving in front of me at junc 33 m1, one morning last week, she left it till last miniute, only to find traffic backed up on slip road, I nearly clipped her back end…
yes it records in a loop.
the instructions are a typical chinese translation …just have a play with it…you`ll sort it

Hi, to set the time and date you need to press mode button until you go off the green colour options and get the light blue date&time functions. If that makes sense
