]The transcontinental i drove was for Hatcher Freightlines from Framlingham in 1980 on a w reg it was a 290 â â â â â â â with a 13 speed
splitter box they had two my mate drove the other one but his was a 9 speed box and mine pulled like a train but stopping them was another thing, well ahead of their time, The first time i took it out it felt like the cab was going to come off when you went onto a roundabout or braked.

Used to see the Ken Trowell transcontinentals almost every day when my Dad used to run out of milton pipes but donât have one photo of it âŚ
It was the first artic i had in 1979 a year after passing my test i was working for WT Aldridge in Woverhampton my version was a VGH 854R blue/white later painted red like the other 2 with a NTC 355 14lt â â â â â â â with a 9 sp gearbox bloody cold in the winter and you had to keep the trailer brakes wound up to stop it but i love it at 24 years old we had another GDH 4T big cam 290E 9sp driven by Bob Webster in 1980 i was given a new one with a new York 12m tilt LFK 24V again with a 290E 9 sp with pilote tyres on the front after my first trip to Rome i asked for VGH back the boss ask why as this one had a night -heater and in the August break was going to be fitted with a cooker and wash basin in the dash like GDH i replied it does not go up the mountains like my old one,so i had VGH back and i must say it never let me down only had a alternator go and a cam follower seize which â â â â â â â replaced FOC they were all maintained by Billinghams in Wolverhampton
Anyone remember us on the Italy run pulling for Ferry Freighting

have a look at Kit Form Services website, they do a 1/24 scale one in resin,it is a superb kit,and would save you a hell of a lot of work.
i think there is a pic of one i made of my dads old transcon somewhere on this thread.

Have you read the book âFord Transcontinentalâ by Patrick Dyer?. Its full of photos of Transcons (some Ken Trowells) and all the info you could ever wish for regarding Transcons. Well worth getting a copy if youâve got an interest in the big Fords.
