Heres a couple of pictures that i found they are from around 1978
This was taken at Canvey Island , a few drivers used to leave thier trucks on a bit of waste ground near the High Streetā¦you would never get away with it now
This one was on hire to Atlas Express (Benfleet Depot) it had a Freightliner 40ā Box on the back and rolled on a roundabout in Basildonā¦It must have seemed a long long way down for the driver . (no-one was hurt as I remember)

Didnāt Johnny Pitts buy a left hand drive Transcon red and white iirc but couldnāt get the hang of it ā ā .Donāt think he had it long had a few near misses in it.
Yeah spot on Rob I had forgotten all about thatā¦he let me have a go of it down the A13 and in the end he chucked me out of the drivers seat coz I kept thinking I was going to hit the kerb and was driving on the white lineā¦his face was white as all the motors coming the other way were nearly hitting us

Very true
Well a mate of mine now in his 60ās and still drives part time had the first Transcon in this country as I understand it caused quite a stir in its day
When he went to France in it it also caused quite a stir When he came back from 1 trip abroad Ford were waiting for him to take a pic with the Transit etc to be published
An ex T D Morgan driver sent me this a couple of years ago, have lost his info when changing PCās

Nicolas, in response to your question about a Transcon āspecialā, they produced a version primarily designed for M/E work. When I worked for Reads of Peterborough, they had one TAV 902S, which I remember being delivered to the yard at Oxney Road. The top of the cab was pale blue, the lower part - below the silver strip - being the normal white. It was fitted with an aircon unit, fridge, cooker, and washbasin. The bottom bunk was replaced by storage units. If I remember correctly, it was powered by a 350 ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā On its last few trips for Reads, it was driven by Barry Aspland, but had been driven from new by John Nightingale.
Phil Grant thanks for that Pat I remember he was one of the best ,but allways had trouble fighting the women off. I was allways jealous
I dont know if anyone on here knows the trucks or the owner but there was a house near me in belvedere kent where the chap had two transcon tractors on his drive. One was a six wheel tractor and one a four wheeler and both had been restored but the last few times i have been that way they seem to hae gone. I was just wondering what had happened to them.
Ive never driven or realy been close up to one as they were a bit before my time
but they look like a great truck for there era if you were doing long distance work. you could be forgiven for thinking that renault may have been influnced when they designed the magnum.

Wasnt the Transcon cab a variation of the Berliet, who were taken over by Renault ?
