Narrow front axle on E2220EL for some reason.
I took this around 1991 at Midsummer Meadow in Northampton when a fair visited the town. Always had a huge soft spot for the Cargo because I spent all my school holidays in my dad’s from about 1983 til 1996.
Pulling the racing truck trailer is a LHD 38t Cargo unit with a Cummins L10 250 and 9-sp Fuller box.
EDIT to add: I’ve just dug out the article that pic came from. It was from TRUCK in 1985 and George Bennett shared the driving down to Italy. The outfit grossed 19t and the 250 pulled surprising well. They were able to keep it lit over the Brenner Pass with no trouble. And the cab was roomy, apparently. Just shows how spoiled we’ve become!
I drove a couple of Cargo rigids for a mob called BDC in NW London in the late 80s - way better in many respects than the ageing D-Series it replaced, I liked the glassy cab except early morning/ late evening when the sun was low. The waggly mirrors annoyed me too. It’s a pity that (in lower GVW models) the engines were an update of the old D-series (Dover?) because when the Merc 814/ 1014 turned up not long after, it showed what the Cargo could have been. Personal opinion etc.
