That is late in the day for a Chinese Six Tractor Unit!
I know rigid Chinese Sixes were supplied by Leyland, for Birds Eye I think.
ERF, sure I have a photo of a Bassetts of Tittensor ERF E series.
And Ford, who definitely sold some to Joshua Tetley to replace Ford Ds.
Whether they were assembled by the above companies or were converted I could not say!
Rode shotgun in this taking steel roof sections from Redpath Dorman Long in Trafford Park to Wylva power station being built on Anglesea, fun days! NMP.

Cab too small with you in it for the engine as well, David?
Nice looking motor, both.

Something like that David,I remember George the pilot being a hard task master,no idea what engine make on the rear though, although I think the Foden had a Percy 150 IIRC.

Blimey, what do the kids of today think when we tell them what we used to pull around with a mere 150 horses?

Probably the same as we thought of our Grandads with their two in hand.
I recall running west from Sydney, over the Blue Mountains, many years ago, feeling sorry for myself working so hard, when I remembered my school lesson about Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson winching their horses and pack mules up with ropes and pullies, to discover the Western Plains.
Bloody mad Poms! It didn’t make my job any easier, but I did appreciate Rudolf’s magnificent effort, a bit more.

Not quite as it seems all,the rig was a push/pull,not so much due to the weight, more so for the length of the trailer requiring a rear steer.
As a matter of interest, the second man in the rear steer was Chris Bennett, who has his own heavy haulage business near Stockport.

Posted it years ago, again from the old firm, driver by Trevor “Amos” Antrobus, couldn’t keep it in hub seals from memory…

Probably one of the main reasons there are not any proper British marques remaining.

I travelled many a mile with my father as nipper in the fifties when he an eight wheeler version of that model on Thermalite. I remember the speedometer and switches being in the centre of the steering wheel, and there is an old Petter engined dumper on a local farm that has one of those steering wheels fitted to it! The panel on the floor in front of the seat was the access to fill the oil operated brakes. As Paul says the gearlever and pedals were the same through the range right up to the S80 models, why change something that worked well? A well built cab with no fancy padding etc to get dirty. Only thing missing in the pic is the ■■■ packet rolled up and put between the gear lever and the reverse lockout rod to stop it rattling!
Pete.

You can’t believe that the reverse lever rattle could send you daft, when you’re in a motor that you struggled to hold a conversation in
