Could well be from where you say Armstrong.Sharples bought quite a few second hand Fodens in later years.

Don’t know whether these count as Foden tippers but they were built in Sandbach and virtually unbreakable. The first one I had dealings with had a 6LW Gardner with 12 speed Foden box and 2 gearsticks but the later ones had ■■■■■■■ 220 engines still with 12 speed gearbox but only one gearstick and an air valve for the range changes.

i remember years ago about the foden dumptrucks with two gearsticks,iirc you had the main four speed stick and there was another stubby stick on the left hand side ,almost by the side of the seat,the later ones had that stick removed in favour for the three position air valve on the steering column s/low /low /direct.

This one rebuilt in 2004 after being purchased with front end damage and it was loaded with tarmac which had been on its back for 3 months
