My Fodens…Classics
Dave the Renegade:
Sharples ran about 25 lorries in the 60’s and 70’s and bought two new Fodens every year.
remember them well when i was a kid, john williams lived up the road from use. new when it was 6 oclock cos when he came by our house, the glass used to vibrate in the window frames and wake me up.
he had the yellow one aswell with the rolls in
Dave the Renegade:
This one with a Rolls 265 is for sale.
Here’s the yellow one Andrew, they still have it if you want it.
Cheers Dave.

Nice pics Sepo: What did you make of the 3000s? I thought they were a good no nonsense site wagon. The ■■■■■■■ 275 I had idled too fast though and made gearchanges a bit crunchy when going from neutral…
This is my LHD Foden that Im halfway through restoring. It was built as a demonstrator for ■■■■■■■ in Belgium and was fitted with every factory extra available at the time it was built in 1992. It was sold on to a haulier in Brussels when it was around 18 months old. The last pic is of the same truck after it was sold by ■■■■■■■ and is how I
m hoping to get it looking when finished.
There was an eccletic mix of our tippers hauling ■■■■■■■■ to Raf Brize Norton today, about 500t in total. The ■■■■■■■■ was only very roughly levelled and the Foden Alphas performed as good if not better than the Volvo FM and new MANs also on the job. One of our auto Dafs spluttered and the 7litre Volvo FE wasnt too keen leaving the tarmac either.
Loved those Claribel fodens sepo, absolute class…

Been posted before, but seems quite apt that they should be on the Foden thread…
Cracking photos of the famous S39.s plus the stand out livery, great stuff, Regards Larry.

I had 1 just like this, D355 GWX ,it was 1 of the last before they altered the cab to the 4000 range,it had a 9 speed Fuller and a 320 Gardner and i thought it was a great motor, not the fastest but it was a really good puller. It was ex Parkinson Spencer of Holmfield nr Halifax
Paul Griffiths tipping a load in Hereford, after having the lorry in for test.
These Fodens did 1250 ks a day. Scania, Merc, Iveco all sent demonstrators in before their purchase but only Foden and only ■■■■■■■ would stand any sort of warranty.
Some of their immediate predecessors. The one with its back to the camera had a ■■■■■■■ test engine fitted, it just pulled and pulled and pulled.
Four of C W Griffiths at the Strinds quarry late 1980’s.
