Foden Thoughts

NZ JAMIE:
Anyhow in an attempt to bring some peace to this thread and to try and stop you blokes from chatting each other up here’s some more Fodens from the colonies .

I won’t post my comments on the Issue as I fear I may upset the young bloke, discretion is the better part of valour

Good trucks Fodens, easy and relatively cheep to get parts for, easy to work on and reliable too. With a well proven drive line ■■■■■■■■■■■ Fuller Rockwell/Eaton,you cant go too far wrong.

bma Finland mate, hope there’s no hard feeling between us as there seems to be a bit of a fight this week between NZ and Finland.

Cheers mate Jamie.

I’ve been having an interesting/frustrating time these past few days; The reversing switch has been playing up and when I finally got to yard today to have it replaced, it was discovered the Alphas have different types of switch to more recent CFs; Guess which one was sent  Workshop cleaned my dodgy one up and after a few miles, it went haywire…Bleeper making interesting noises, disco style reversing lights, crackling noises from fusebox, and a reversing camera turning itself on and off. I made a few alterations to bring peace and tranquility; Took the bulbs out of the reversing lights, pulled the fuse out of the camera and switched off the reversing bleeper. Not great for the Health and Safety fanatics but kept the old girl going until I got back to the yard…and got a fitter to rob a switch off an Alpha being prepared for MOT

You should have a bonus in your pay packet for using your initiative which a lot of drivers wouldn’t think of these days.
Cheers Dave.

I reckon a disciplinary would be more likely for “tampering with safety equipment” :unamused:

Thanks chaps for spoiling this thread, spot on thats me deleating it from my topic list, no more from me.

How do you do this? There’s a couple I want to delete too.

I dont know if i`ve mentioned this before but i always prefered the Foden cab to the 85 style ,i dont know why they stopped offering it

Most of the drivers I speak to that have driven both, rate the Foden Alpha a much better vehicle than the Daf CF as an artic or rigid .
Cheers Dave.

drove one of these for many years hope the photo has uploaded

Can I just add our family ran a Foden Speed Six Speed Waggon. On the South Wales thread I said my Grandad pulled a Leyland Octopus and Drag over The Jockey pitch when loaded. Proper lorries/Waggons. My Dad had a great SWB Foden 8 wheeler, when loaded would go anywhere that lorries of the era wouldnt go. First lorry I drove in anger Foden 6 Wheel tipper ,250 ■■■■■■■ ,9 speed fuller.Dont think the young un`s appreciate life without limiters. That old girl would pull all day.Fodens were class and still are as tippers. British…

I had this bad boy for a while, absolutly loved it. twin split, 400 hp went like [zb] off a shovel. we had 2 of these, sister motors aswell though the other one had a buggered gearbox, really hard to select a gear until the gearbox was warmed up and they would never find a problem when it went into the garage.

its the only foden ive driven and i would have happily kept driving it, then i got shoved into a brand new cf automatic and got sick of being stuck on landfill that i left, the fodn on the otherhand never ever got stuck no matter what.

Got my Alpha upto 10.2mpg today; I’m sure that wont change Bud143s mind

Couple of Foden’s

A 210 in an 8wheeler??! :open_mouth: I’ve never seen an 8w with a 2000 series cab, it must’ve been for a specific purpose?

Goes to show Caterpillar engines aren’t that thirsty

I agree with you , Fodens were class & could hold their own along side anything, Im a Foden man & started off with this S 20, 150 Gardner 12 Speed Foden Box, a very reliable bit of gear, & of course it had a gear for every hill, Regards Larry.

roger’s fod - trac power and bling!! see this often it makes a fast trac look expensive and silly!!

Better than a fastrac if your doing a lot of road work. They are made for the work instead of a tractor doing a wagons work.
