W.Vernon & Sons of Birkenhead date back to the 1770’s. They built the famous Millenium Mills at Silvertown in 1905 & operated a fleet of steamers ( mainly Fodens). In 1920 they were taken over by Spillers but continued to trade as Vernons as this 1950 Atkinson shows
Leyland Octopus, mid-1950s, with Simon-Duramin bulk body in service with Darlings of Adelaide. Darlings was one of the largest millers in Australia and the founder, John Darling, was of Scottish origin. He was prominent in politics and sat in the Australian parliament for many years.

Then this.
Very lucky it`s not raining in Grange over Sands this morning !
…or ,…as Homer Simpson would say : “DOH !”
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
Well, it’s not as bad as when the pipe comes off the back of the tank when it’s discharging. Now that does make a mess over a wide area, and even more so if its raining hard. I write from personal experience of such an occurance…but I hasten to add I wasn’t the tanker driver, i just happened to be the person nearest to it when it happened, the driver had gone to make a brew and commited the cardinal sin of leaving a blowing tanker unattended. The mess was a sight to see,… or not depending on your point of view.
I am obviously missing something here as I cant quite see what is wrong? I guess the bags are blocking a public right of way until the customer collects them? Anyway it wont be Muckaway driving, as an ex tipper man he would be well versed in being tidy and courteous towards members of the public, just like myself.
Pete.
Well none of the bags burst open at least, But what are they doing there in the first place ? Did they fall off or what, Regards Larry.

That’s what I cannot fathom Larry, they appear to be too far back to have fallen off? No harm done anyway.

Hi Pete Ive just had a closer look & there appears to be a sack barrow between the wagon & the wall ?, Regards Larry.
The location at Grange over Sands is close to a bakery , and you-know-who
on TNUK is probably the delivery driver.
Maybe the parked car is preventing easier delivery (Moffett f/l ), so its handball instead. Update probably later today , - when the driver regained his energy .  The bags on the pavement won
t get nicked ,- too many old folk in Grange .
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
