One for Muckaway Matthews delivering to Tewkesbury.

Matthews lined up ready for the off.

Flourpower, would that first pic be on the trading estate at Newtown, Tewkesbury? Looks like Le Petit Croissant or Le Petit summit-their vans have “Bonjour” written backwards on the bonnets. Bloody slippery floor in there.

The second pic must be pre 2009 as the offices next to the silos were rebuilt around then. The silos are behind a canopy now, and no rigids are based at Shipton anymore (only the artic with tanker and curtainsider).

Another Andrews photo, of a later Leyland Comet

Heygates certainly get long service from their motors, it seems all flour millers do. Matthews have a 54 reg (now a spare but still does 3/4 days a week or more) that’s just gone around the clock. Clarks of Wantage lorries are oldish but immaculate too.

Heygates have their own “graveyard” of old lorries and trailers. They do all repairs and everything else “in-house”, canibalising old tackle to keep newer ones going and to keep fleet costs to a minimum. Bugbrooke mill is a fascinating place to visit, mind you we get a telling off for something every time we go in there. I think that the Heygate brothers must watch for one of our tankers going in and then one of them comes out of the office to give it a once over. But a very good customer of ours and I’m proud to be a haulier for them.
