Their rep that we used to occasionally see was an ex driver of theirs and he loved the company If that helps.

Again? What depot?

Friend of mine just left. Couldn’t get out the place quick enough.

Crap pay and treated same way.

I ran tanks for them just under a year ago (was agency). Finished earlier in the year and they advertised. Guy on here asked about them and went for interview. Said they wanted too much for too little in return.
I enjoyed it and had it pretty good but I did say “no” to a lot of the stuff they wanted from me. Gave an inch and they tried to take a mile.

^^ It was me that went for the interview approx 3/4 months ago Class 1 Gas Tanker out of Blaydon (Newcastle). After thinking about it for 48hrs I pulled out of the process as there were to many negatives for me. Pay was £10.20 ph for first 40hrs then £15.40 thereafter - FAR to skinny for pulling a gas tanker! Weekly hours M-F were 11/12 hour days with a potentially very early start 0300 - 0500. I was also asked if I was willing to be “multi - skilled” ie: class 2 local delivery’s etc when things were quiet. I just got the feeling I would be pushing a brush around the yard if things went v quiet. I was told that the driver before me had decided to move on as he had a young family & his work life balance was not right! ( chose my words carefully). It seems the same job has become vacant again & I can’t say I’m suprised. Like I say to many negatives for me to jump from my current agency gig. Hope that helps.

Even Calor Gas is better than that on Agency !!

I got a call on Friday in fact ask ing if I was available to go back on tanks late October. I’m thinking it might be them…

It might have been £10.20 for the first 45 hrs opposed to 40hrs I cant quite remember. All in all I didnt get the right feeling for the job & as a dayman 55-60 hrs is a big commitment for not a great weekly wage fore pulling gas.

Not only pulling it around but loading and tipping in the open during the busy winter months. Just standing pressing your dead man’s switch every 10 secs or so for an hour

Thanks for all the info guys,

Yep it’s the vacancy at blaydon that I am enquiring about so all the info is appreciated!. Was thinking it would be more in the region of £13 ph… basic. I have heard they dont pay as much as boc and air liquide etc so with that in mind. I like my nights out as well but states north east region and as you have just mentioned it’s days… fort they would of being payed more than that for basic mind. So your looking at £500 take home roughly.

As far as I can remember there was the odd night out & the run was predominantly to Grangemouth, although occasionally to Immingham. There was mention of running a night tanker also during the autumn / winter months as the requirement for gas obviously intensifies. Interview was approx 75 mins, pension was through NEST. Long days M-F & as previously stated to many negatives for me. I thought the commitment required for such a job, taking into account the training, the hours, the wage etc etc I simply couldnt commit to something I was so unsure about. During the process I spoke to EddieMD who had previous agency experience there & also swapped msg`s with LisasGuy, a current employee down south, & as he says each depot is different. GL with whatever you decide to do.

All depots to the best of my knowledge have a 45 hour week, paid breaks, O/T @ x1.5 after the 45 & x1.5 Sat & Sun x2 on bank hols, 20% extra for night rate 0000-0400 Each depot appears to have individual shift patterns some 4x4 4x2 M-F etc it really is down to needs of the business in that area, 33 days a year holiday & it is the NEST pension scheme.
I left BOC to join Flo Gas 2 1/2 years ago & would do so again, but for our depot it’s different as were based in the golden triangle of the midlands also near to Kingsbury so our rate of pay reflects that, for me its a 1st in that all the work we do they ask the driver what he thinks & in most cases they agree & let us get on with it, it’s not the best paid Tanker ADR job but personally it wasn’t just about the money. Like I’ve said each depot is different & yes you will be expected to drive class 2 when it’s quite but you get paid your normal rate & for me i enjoy the variety, the drivers that are flexible get looked after.
It really is a Marmite job, best of luck whatever you decide.

dead man’s switch?
What’s that?
Pressing every 10 secs?

I’ve seen some gas tanker drivers tipping and they spend a lot of time in their cabs while tiping.

Just a device that they hold onto. Could be size of a lighter or size of a phone. Need to press it every X amount of seconds or so or pumps close down. Safety measure in case maybe driver takes poorly or such while pumping.

So, I gues drivers are being able to keep pressing these switches while sitting in their cabs, then
Is it the same on fuel tankers?

I guess they could. I would assume they had the same or similar on fuel. I’ve only done gas though.
