I work for a large logistics company in Spalding Lincs and when my truck which I use all the time went in for a service I was given a hire truck. My working shift pattern is 4 days on/4 days off, and work nights so I have to sleep in the truck during the day. After sleeping that day I noticed when I woke up that my arms and legs were covered in bites which I have seen before on people bitten by fleas, so I used some parcel tape on the mattress and when I turned it over I could see alot of small black and brown dots with legs stuck on the tape. The hire truck was a DAF from a well known company in the North West so I wonder if they valet the trucks and mattresses every time they come off hire. I informed my manager that night on arrival to the depot and to our fleet dept I also ask HSE in my local area who informed me that it was a health and safety issue and the truck should be fumigated or the mattress destroyed. How many other drivers have come across this problem and the best way the deal with it.
Cat flees are the most common, the eggs get transported by cat owners.
They cant live on human but survive long enough to bite.
The eggs last for years and wait for the temp and the menu that they like.
Lucky enough to have own truck now but good flee killer used to be part of my tool kit.
