Ah right, so basically it was cheaper on tax the more axles you ran thus less “damage” to the roads?
And does it really make that much of a difference in wind, like really!!!■■ I’m finding it hard to agree as I can just see the wind moving you about moderately anyway regardless of whether the mid lift is down as the wind is hitting the trailer and effectively trying to lift the pin out which is causing you to move.
I’ll tell you what, when it’s windy, I’ll run for 10 mins with it up and 10 mins with it down and then I’ll either hold my hands up and admit you was right or I’ll keep disagreeing as the day is long
The way an older driver (40+ years driving) explained it to me, was that if all the wheels are on the ground, you’ve got an extra airbag pushing you back upright?

Yep, iirc it was about £1200 for 3+3 at 38ton, and I think it might have been around £3500 on 5 axles for 38 ton. I seem to think that when the 5 axle limit went to 40 ton, and the 6 axles went to 41 ton they then done away with the 3+3 consession, but brought in the RPC tax break on emmisions, also allowed 4 axles artics on full air to go to 36 tons but that was something like £5000 to tax for the year.

What it seems to cut down is the oscilation, like where the trailer pushes lateraly against the unit, sort off like in a weave motion.
Well mate, I’m like you give it go, if you dont think it makes any odds fine, but at least you’re open minded enough to try for yourself. Plenty just dismiss stuff, they’re way or no way attitude
