I flash people when they`re a car length in front.Do you consider that a safe gap, stupidn00b?
I do yes.
stupidn00b by name, stupidn00b by nature.

I hear that the non flashers/thankers are all foreigners, ex Stobart drivers, Agency, Yoof of today, Split Arsed, Ex Squaddies or a combination of the above. One things for certain… They’re all [zb]! (Especially the ones that want to take your wipers off for you)
Then I would get your hearing checked because that is complete bollix.
Ha ha ha 2 for the price of 1.

Can I take it that you’re not circumcised then?

I do yes. for several reasons, 1, the wagon I
ve flashed in is travelling at a higher velocity than myself (he
s just overtaken me) hence that gap will grow quite rapidly. Why hog up the middle lane when he can be in 1st lane? If a wagon creeps up on me i drop to 85klicks when they pull out and wouldnt increase to 90 till a good gap has accumulated. 2/ i have a clear view of road in front, obviously if it wasn
t safe i wouldnt flash in. its called judgement which 90% of drivers in the UK lack 3/ in some places its actually a substantial fine for staying out in the overtaking lane when there is space in the “slow” lane. With awareness of surroundings and common sense then yes 1 car length is a safe gap (to flash someone in that is). I
m not saying 1 car length is a safe gap to maintain tho. although ya know if his back doors are an arm length in front you
ll increase your MPG for the journey by 0.05MPG…You flash a wagon in when he’s a car length in front of you, what happens if he has a blow out or something happens in front of him that you can’t see just as he pulls in front of you??
A car length is nowhere near enough, all you can see is back doors at that stage
I agree, a car length is nowhere near enough space between the two of you to be flashing another lorry in
I’ve been flashed in several times when I’ve been that close but wouldn’t even consider pulling in front, it’s much too close.
If they indicate to come in, I flash when they’re a good distance to do so. If they don’t, I flash when they’re a good distance to do so. Whether they show me a wink or two or flash their tail/hazard lights is unimportant. I can’t stand it when a truck is 3 feet past me and they come back across cos they have the judgement to know that their arse end is ahead of my cab. If in that split second they have to do something urgently, all I can see is their arse end and I will have little or no time to react. They might think they’re being a good driver by closing the door as soon as is physically possible but it spooks me sometimes the way some drivers seem to need to get back into the 1st lane asap.
As a van driver, I always flash in trucks and anybody towing anything. They probably already find it annoying enough that I’m doing 56 in the inside lane as it is without me not flashing, so I do flash to lessen the annoyance. I also take great joy in manically flashing zombie middle-lane car drivers who stubbornly refuse to use lane 1 despite there being nothing in it for half a mile
I do, when necessary. But my motor does 57, so the only stuff that tends to pass me either says “IRL” or “Lomas” on it. Chaps that drive those things tend to just pull in before I get chance to flash them anyway. This is due to the fact that I would have prefered to have some view of the road ahead

I am as it happens, not for religious reasons either…before you ask.

It occurs that you would fail a class 1/2 test for repeatedly stopping behind stationary traffic closer than a cars length. That is at an approach speed of 5mph or less. The thought of that separation distance at 56mph is mildly terrifying.

I thought it was just me with the Lomas wagons. mine probably verges on 57 burt one passed me on the A449 the other day like i was parked up !! ( ok slight exaggeration )
just how do they do it !!

and also seem to fall into two camps. Either I’ll take your mirror off as I’m coming in because they vastly superior to other drivers and shouldn’t be inconvenienced by any other wagon, or they will sit out nicely until flashed in then not acknowledge you because that would be a sign of weakness to a trucking god.
Met one of their drivers at Lockerbie one night. One of the most self important pricks I’ve ever encountered. Ranting and raving because I had the audacity to get the shower key before him.

Imagine the speed you pass an English lorry at, then apply approximately the same differential, and this is how fast they’d be coming past you.

I haven’t got a licence but by the way you say it I would say 60 or 65
i was going to put on here about flash ins but glad you beat me to it,to add to the post i do not bother flashing in anymore as a lot of hgv drivers are too ignorant now,and as was stated they tend to try and take off the front of your cab when they cut in,i had about three do it to me today 14 4 14 on the M6 northbound,my vehicle only does 52mph but it did not stop them cutting in,even though they passed with ease, the standard of hgv driving has in my opinion become very bad nowdays,i find with disappointment that a lot of the time it is by drivers of my age group,[51] maybe they just do not care anymore
I never rely one anyone flashing me, car van or truck… the only flashing I like or take any notice of is this…lol
The Sarge:
OK, for what it’s worth.
I’m in lane 1, fat and happy at 87 clicks when someone pulls out to overtake me. If he’s passing quite smartly, I stay on cruise control. If he’s struggling a bit (and I’m not on a hill fully loaded) I’ll knock the cc back a couple of clicks. When I can see his offside in my windscreen (ie, past my A frame pillar) I’ll flash him in out of courtesy. If he pulls in before this point I will say “[zb]” and pull back a few clicks more. If he doesn’t acknowledge I will think “ah well” and continue with my journey. After a minute or so, I will put the cc back to 87 clicks, and continue on my journey.
If I catch up with another vehicle, I will pull out when I can get into a gap (preferably about a quarter mile back), accelerate to 90 clicks and overtake. I will look to see if I am flashed in, and pull in with a flash left/right/left and continue on my journey. If I am not flashed in (or I don’t notice one) then I will continue in lane 2 until I am well clear (IMO) of the vehicle, pull in and usually acknowledge (in case I was looking out of the big window in front of me when he flashed), drop back to 87 clicks, then I will continue on my journey.
I will flash artics, puddle jumpers, vans with trailers, vans and cars with trailers (as it costs me nothing), and will sometimes get an acknowledgment, then - I continue on my journey.
I usually arrive at my destination relaxed, fat, and happy
HTH…
Why don’t you stay at 90?
Coz I can stay in Lane 1 most of the time (fat and happy) and have an extra couple of clicks on hand if I need them. At 90 I’m catching (slowly) other wagons and having to either drop back or overtake them (slowly)
