Flashing in coaches

switchlogic:
Speaking as a driver of both in a truck I never flash coaches in because quite frankly they don’t need it. But if I’m driving a coach and a lorry flashes me in I’ll always do a thank you, but it’s really not needed the speed difference is that high.

somewhat similar to any tang or scots fish truck worth its salt.
i wonder if anyone will start a " flashing in tangs " thread??

I agree why bother flashing in a coach they are going so much faster no point.

As for other wagons rarely do I flash them in now and feel a lot safer for it as most will not pull in until about half a length Infront, if they pull in to close for comfort I just click it down a few notches and let them sail on.

Really don’t understand this mentality of must get back in ASAP really dangerous and unprofessional [emoji848]

Ok you rarely flash others in, and that’s up to you…but do you not think that is why we have this problem nowadays of cutting in too soon.! :bulb:

30, 20 even 10 years ago, you could bet your house you would get flashed in, then for one reason or another it stopped being a certainty :unamused: .
So then you get the unsure, the inexperienced and the downright incompetent cutting in on you, because they are either unsure if they are clear, or unsure if they are going to get a flash or not, wonder if they are clear (usually after a long overtake) and cut in too soon.

(I personally always make a point off staying out a bit longer than needed, so even if they can’t be arsed to flash me in, I still know I have left them enough space not to ■■■■ them off)

It was a system that worked for generations, but like everything else about this job,.all the positive aspects, (in this case empathy and courtesy to one another as drivers) are dying out. :bulb:

No I don’t think it’s why we have this problem at all, I always used to flash everybody but half the time they are coming over anyway way before my comfort level.
If people are not sure they should stay out a bit longer, what’s the problem with that?

What is the real cause of drivers cutting in early I don’t really know, pure stupidity, don’t realise the danger, bad old fashioned habits I think.

I agree they should stay out longer, I’ve already said I do so myself, so that was not my argument.
All you are saying is what I have already said, people cut in nowadays far too soon, but for the reasons I’ve suggested…so how can you say you disagree ?

To clarify,…it more than likely started long before you (and many others) stopped flashing trucks in for whatever reason, but as more and more have done this (like yourself) it has just gone to exacerbate and prolong the problem…that was my point. :bulb:

Me?..I just continue to flash other trucks in as a matter of courtesy, and continue to wish a horrible fate on those ■■■■ s who cut in before the flash. :smiling_imp:

I’m more likely to flash them out the way than flash them in.

I’ll only flash them in if they’ve flashed to let me out by someone or similar.

As for flashing in tangs, I can make Dover to Glasgow without being flashed in once, the beanos get a bee in their bonnet about a blinged up 730 howling past  the jealousy in this job is hilarious.

Hmmmm ‘jealousy’ ?
Ok, Maybe in a few cases of like minded people bud, but definitely not in every case, and certainly not in mine nor many like me. :bulb:
Not sure what you mean by ‘‘beanos’’ either tbh…I was always a Dandy man myself.

I’ve had a couple of big flash blinged motors in the past, (including V8 Scanias) and they’re nice to drive…and I stress I AINT saying this necessarily applies to YOU :bulb: as I don’t know you, … but it’s never prompted me to drive like a ■■■■, in a ‘‘Look at me get out me way’’ type of way, but I must admit in a lot of cases of over blinged big motors, many do adapt to that style of driving for some reason known to themselves. :unamused:
So when one ‘‘howls’’ past me the word ‘‘■■■■’’ has immediately sprang to mind in the past, but ‘‘jealousy’’ has never entered my head. :bulb:

It’s normal to be jealous and think “■■■■” when someone better than you passes, don’t worry. Not saying this applies to you but it’s often followed by loudly talking about how everyone who drives a V8 takes a pay cut and that Scanias are crap really, your 440 poverty spec MAN passes them dontcha know.

 …ok then I’m jealous…there I’ve said it .
I drive the ultimate poverty spec ■■■■ bag Actros, and yeh I’d love to go back to driving some of the stuff I’ve had in the past, and I’d never say Scanias are crap (on a sideline the 143 450 was a far better horse than any more modern Scania I’ve had  )
Mind you in a lot of cases, (ok fair enough NOT all) the blinged top spec is an alternative to a few extra quid an hour to some strange people  .

Anyhow back on thread…my jealousy (or my contempt for dicks  ) has never stopped me flashing em in. :sunglasses:

I have to confess that the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title of this thread was when I did a night trunk to bellshill many moons ago and got flashed from the back seat of a coach by three rather fetching young ladies on what looked like a good night out!

Sadly, was long before the days of dashcams!

A lot of national express seem to go for the sarcastic dual indicator acknowledge, when barrelling past and not receiving a flash I’ve noticed a lot.I go by the operating principle that if it helps the smooth symmetry of vehicular progression,I.e weight gradient differentials, then a courteous flash is totally warranted, ditto cars emerging from dodgy slip roads,A34 especially.Just cant be arsed flashing all and sundry when theres really no need. It’s the default expectation of it that irks me.
