Fixing something that works fine!

My truck has been pulled in to Frieghtliner for a week to have the gear box changed.
I actually like the one thats in it, it’s a Fuller super 10 which is a bit like a twin splitter but only splits once in each position, it’s easy and smooth to use, all of our tractors are being changed by Frieghtliner under warranty because a few broke down.
In return I am using an 05 Columbia with a Cat in it and an antiquated Fuller road ranger box of gears which I am told is exactly the same as the one they will be putting in mine… :exclamation:
Why fix something that works fine ? I could coast along with easy and no effort what so ever on interstates and now will be reduced to driving an even worse pile of junk than I did before :frowning:

Hey, its Freightliner, what do you expect ? :stuck_out_tongue:
I quite like our 10 speed Eaton Fuller transmissions we have on 2 of our tractor units, our 3rd older tractor has a Meritor transmission and drives like a piece of [zb]

you will be wanting disc brakes next

Ha Ha … I’ll be wnting to get rid of this dinosaur of a US built truck and get a proper motor, Scania, MAN, Volvo or Merc would do.
Funny how most young brit drivers see US trucks in movies and have the dream of one day driving such junk
They have no idea how lucky they are with their european trucks.

Good job im not one of those ‘most young brit drivers’ Im 33 this year, and I prefer to drive my Freightliner than any of the Euro spec trucks.

I’ll let you have a go in my motor Pat, then you’ll see what a PROPER truck is

Seriously now, I have to say that of all the trucks I’ve driven, which given my background, means every European Truck on the market for the last 20yrs, the Peterbilt I drive now is the best one I’ve driven, it’s comfortable, powerful, reliable, has lots of space, basically all I need to do my job.

I’ve not driven a Freightshaker, but I can see why you think the way you do, they’re made as cheap as possible for the big fleets, but you can’t tar all American trucks with the same brush, that’s like saying that all Euro trucks are crap, you can’t compare an ERF to a Scania in the same weay that you can’t compare a Freightliner with a Peterbilt.

Anyway, what you doing on here, ain’t you got any snow to shovel

Yeah whateva, I seen it and it’s pink.

It may have looked pink to you, but you had BTD’s rose tinted specs on at the time

On the way home today … in the worst snow storm so far this winter by the way, I stopped into Albany workshops to get so new mud flaps on the pile of junk I am stuck with for the moment and inquired about y truck ? Seems i am getting a practacally new truck back ! New gear box (junk), new hood, and they decided to rebuild the engine, I guess that stops my expected Cascadia then :frowning:

What you driving Pat? I know its a Freightliner but which model? We have 3 Century Class at Fedex. 1 2002 and 2 2008’s

We did have a brand new 2010 Cascadia till one of the senior managers higher up decided Vancouver would get it and gave us the 2002 in exchange … we got [zb] over. Its a piece of junk.

I’m sure it is a piece of junk, but I bet the 2010 Cascadia won’t make it to 9yrs old without some major work done on it, whereas the old 02 is probably all original

Wait till you’ve driven that new 10 speed for a couple of weeks Pat. Your post will read " wow, i love my new roadranger, now i can see why the Yanks kept it for 70 years" :stuck_out_tongue:

I hate the antique roadranger with a vengence Charles and it’s a Columbia I drive, as are 99% of our trucks. We have a few Cascadias on the fleet and we don’t seem to have any problems. Foodliner have come up with the novel idea of not having stacks fitted and just everything concerning the exhaust underneath, vey European … but ! … some of our customers need us to pump the loads off indoors which involve using stack caps :exclamation:

Oh well, back to the drawing board.
